Major Drug Bust: Criminal Organization Dismantled in Puerto del Rosario

Recently, a significant operation led by the National Police in Puerto del Rosario has resulted in the disbanding of a criminal organization allegedly involved in drug trafficking and a range of crimes against individuals and property. This concerted effort highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement agencies face in tackling organized crime.

The Operation

The operation, spearheaded by the Drug Squad of the Local Brigade, culminated in the arrest of thirteen individuals connected to this criminal network. The investigation involved meticulous surveillance and intelligence gathering. Law enforcement officials targeted two specific properties in Puerto del Rosario, where drug distribution and logistical operations were reportedly conducted.

Arrests and Charges

Those arrested face a variety of serious charges, including membership in a criminal organization, drug trafficking, illegal detention, extortion, and multiple offenses against property. The broad array of allegations underscores the extensive criminal activities associated with this group.

Modus Operandi

Investigators uncovered a disturbing modus operandi employed by the organization. They exploited vulnerable drug consumers, coercing them into roles such as watchdogs or transporters. These individuals were not only involved in drug distribution but were often manipulated into committing thefts to repay debts accumulated through their drug use.

Impact on the Community

The group’s activities have taken a toll on the local community, leading to a noticeable increase in crimes against property. Residents reported a rise in vehicle break-ins and shoplifting in nearby commercial and industrial areas, prompting them to file formal complaints with local authorities.

Disturbing Tactics

During the investigation, police uncovered alarming instances of illegal detention and extortion linked to debt collection. Victims were reportedly forced into financial compliance, sometimes being taken to banks under threats to withdraw cash to settle their debts.

Seizures and Evidence

In the course of executing search warrants at the locations associated with the organization, officers seized significant quantities of illegal drugs. Specifically, 33 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of crack cocaine were found, as well as €2,140 in cash. Additionally, authorities confiscated six precision scales, baseball bats, communication equipment, and various tools used for the production and handling of drugs.

Collaboration with Local Authorities

The operation saw cooperation from the Local Police of Puerto del Rosario, who played a crucial role in shutting down the establishments used by the criminal group. This collaborative approach emphasizes the importance of community involvement in crime prevention strategies.

Judicial Proceedings

Following their arrests, the thirteen detained individuals were brought before the judicial authorities on March 12 and 13. Judicial outcomes varied: three of the detainees were remanded in prison due to their alleged involvement in illegal detention, while proceedings regarding the drug trafficking charges remain ongoing.
