18 Complaints Filed for Violating Anti-COVID Measures in Fuerteventura

COVID-19 Precautions Reinforced in Northern Fuerteventura

On September 19, 2020, in a proactive effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Guardia Civil, in coordination with local police, launched a comprehensive preventive operation across key areas in northern Fuerteventura. This multi-agency initiative specifically targeted the towns of Lajares, El Cotillo, and Corralejo, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to public health and safety during the ongoing pandemic.

Collaborative Efforts

The operation involved collaboration between various law enforcement units. Agents from the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR) of the Puerto del Rosario Company teamed up with police officers from the Corralejo Main Post and local officers from La Oliva. This teamwork was critical in enhancing the reach and effectiveness of the prevention measures.

Administrative Sanctions Issued

The joint operation yielded significant results, with a total of 18 administrative sanctions being issued. Among these, 16 were related to the failure to wear face masks, a crucial measure mandated to curb virus transmission. Additionally, one establishment was penalized for operating without the necessary license, while another faced repercussions for violating the prescribed closing times.

Focus on Nightlife Areas

The initiative commenced at 11:00 PM on September 18, specifically focusing on entertainment venues in Lajares. Inspections in recreational areas revealed a mixed compliance rate regarding mask usage. While many establishments adhered to health regulations, seven reports were filed for improper mask usage among patrons. This highlighted both the need for continued vigilance and the critical role that local businesses play in public health.

Preventive and Informative Actions

Following their work in Lajares, the agents moved to El Cotillo to engage in both preventive and informative activities targeting the public. They focused on educating residents and visitors about the COVID-19 safety measures, aiming to foster greater community awareness and compliance. During this phase, three additional citations were issued for mask violations, underscoring the ongoing need for educational interventions alongside enforcement actions.

Inspection of Leisure Venues

Further activities in Corralejo involved 12 preventive inspections of leisure establishments. Most businesses were found to comply with the established health protocols, which was encouraging. However, one venue was cited for two administrative violations: operating beyond the permitted hours and lacking the necessary license to function.

Ongoing Commitment to Public Health

This operation in northern Fuerteventura serves as a reminder of the continuous efforts required to maintain public health standards amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies not only ensures that regulations are enforced but also emphasizes the importance of community cooperation in navigating these unprecedented times. The proactive measures taken in this region reflect a broader commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of residents and visitors alike.
