The world of wine continues to astound enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike, revealing gems from unexpected corners of the globe. A recent significant milestone in this vibrant industry is the recognition of the Papaíno Malvasía Volcánica 2023. Just over a year after its remarkable triumph at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2024, where it was awarded the Grand Prix CERVIM for the best wine among more than a thousand entries from 35 countries, this volcanic wine has captured attention for its unique character and prowess.

Conatvs: A Triumph in Every Category

Bodegas Conatvs, helmed by the passionate winemaker Pedro Martín Hernández, has much to celebrate. Operating from Lajares in the municipality of La Oliva, this vineyard has showcased its remarkable versatility by clinching a Gold Medal in each of the four principal categories of still wines at a prominent competition.

The award-winning wines from Conatvs include Conatvs Airam 2025, which shone in the whites category, alongside Conatvs Baboso Negro 2025 and Conatvs Tinto 2025, both recognized in the red wine category. Rounding out the accolades is Conatvs Pink 2025, honored in the rosé category. This achievement not only highlights the quality of their products but also reflects the exceptional skill of their winemaking team.

This ambitious project, Conatvs, is fueled by a desire to recuperate and celebrate the Viña Aníbal, the first documented vineyard in Fuerteventura, which dates back to the year 1412. It is not just a vineyard; it is a piece of history, breathing life into the traditions and practices associated with wine cultivation in the Canary Islands.

A Record Participation at CINVE

The latest edition of the CINVE has set a new benchmark in international participation, recording the highest number of foreign entries in its history. Nearly 1,000 samples were evaluated, coming from esteemed wine-producing countries such as Argentina, Alemania, México, Francia, and Grecia. The competition not only underscores the global nature of the wine industry but also highlights the growing reputation of Canary wines on the international stage.

Canary wines made a remarkable impact this year, securing a total of 21 Grand Gold medals, 29 Gold medals, and 7 Silver medals. In addition to these accolades, the recognition extended to two spirits, a vermouth, a cider, and an oil, culminating in 52 awards for the viticultural sector. This array of successes speaks volumes about the creativity and dedication of winemakers across the archipelago.

Undoubtedly, the advancements in the wine industry in places like Fuerteventura are significant steps toward establishing a solid global identity. Winemakers are not only preserving the rich heritage of their regions but are also pushing the envelope with innovative practices and high-quality productions. As they navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern wine landscape, the efforts of Bodegas Conatvs and the recognition of wines like Papaíno Malvasía Volcánica serve as a testament to the vibrancy and potential of this captivating industry.
