Celebrating Local Commerce: The Concurso de Escaparates in Antigua
In a vibrant initiative aimed at revitalizing local commerce, the Ayuntamiento de Antigua has successfully hosted the Concurso de Escaparates as part of the campaign “Enamórate del Comercio de Antigua.” Organized by the dedicated Concejalía led by Giuseppe Signorino, this festive event not only spotlighted the creativity of local businesses but also fostered a spirit of community engagement among residents and visitors alike.
The Heart of the Competition
The competition culminated this past weekend with an exciting award ceremony, where the top three winners were announced. Jointly claiming third place were two beloved local cafes: el Tiempo and la Noria, both situated in the heart of Antigua. The first and second prizes were awarded to businesses in Caleta de Fuste, with Why Not taking home the prestigious first prize and Due earning the second. These recognitions not only celebrate the talent of these establishments but also underscore the diverse culinary landscape within the municipality.
A Community Effort
“Participating in this campaign were 52 establishments from across the municipality, demonstrating a remarkable sense of community and collaboration,” remarked Mayor Matías Peña. He emphasized that the prizes awarded were not just symbolic but were also a meaningful financial boost for local cafes, restaurants, and shops. This initiative is indicative of a broader effort to support local commerce, showcasing how even small measures can have substantial real-world benefits.
Engaging Local Businesses
The scope of the Concurso de Escaparates was remarkable, encompassing all towns within the municipality. The enthusiastic response from local businesses highlighted their commitment to creativity and community involvement. The judging panel, tasked with selecting the winners, placed significant importance on the handcrafted elements of the displays and the overall visual appeal of the decorations. This focus on artistry not only enhances the atmosphere of the shopping experience but also sets a standard for presentation in local commerce.
Tying It All Together: Valentine’s Day Theme
This year’s campaign was strategically aligned with the celebration of San Valentín, adding a romantic flair to the storefronts and encouraging couples and families to explore local shops. The Concejalía further promoted this initiative by organizing a tour of local businesses using a branded vehicle marked “Enamórate del Comercio Local.” This not only created a festive ambiance but also encouraged consumers to think locally and support the businesses in their community.
A Vision for the Future
Concejal Signorino firmly believes that supporting local commerce is essential not just for the economy but also for fostering a sense of identity within the community. By promoting “kilómetro cero” consumption—encouraging residents to buy from local producers and retailers—the campaign aims to build a sustainable and resilient local economy. This holistic approach is not only beneficial for individual businesses but also strengthens the social fabric of the municipality.
Through initiatives like the Concurso de Escaparates, Antigua is not only celebrating its local commerce but also cultivating a thriving ecosystem of support, creativity, and community spirit.
