A Big Celebration This Friday: 20 Years of Farándula

20 años de Farándula, 20 años de amigos

On Friday, May 9, Puerto del Rosario will host a special celebration—one that marks two decades of camaraderie, music, and unforgettable moments at La Farándula, a beloved local establishment. From 2:00 PM until 2:00 AM, the area behind the church will transform into a vibrant venue filled with live music, DJs, delicious local food, and an abundance of emotions. This isn’t just an event; it’s a testament to a place that has felt like home for thousands over the years.

The driving force behind this iconic venue is José Antonio Pevida, better known as Tony “Farándula.” A native of Asturias, Tony arrived in Fuerteventura in 2002 after an extensive career in hospitality in Oviedo. Three years later, in 2005, he decided to put down roots in Puerto del Rosario, opening what started as a small adventure that has since evolved into an institution.

“The first two years were almost disastrous,” Tony reflects on the beginnings of La Farándula. However, through dedication and perseverance, things began to take off. By the fifth anniversary, it was clear that La Farándula was a solid project with a clear mission: to provide a friendly space for connection, camaraderie, and making memories in Puerto del Rosario.

Throughout its history, La Farándula has thrived on shared efforts. Tony especially acknowledges the support of his sister Charo, who has been by his side from the beginning. “La Farándula would be nothing today without Charo. I owe her a lot; we have fought together from the start. She is that unseen face, but the one that makes the music play,” he says gratefully.

There is also heartfelt recognition for Pablo, his trusted manager. “He is the soul of this place, just as much as I am. Pablo is the steady hand, sometimes the one who pulls my ear, always reliable—he’s a powerhouse,” adds Tony.

Una pandemia y fiesta doble

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. The pandemic forced the cancellation of the 15th anniversary celebration, resulting in two unusually tough years for the entire hospitality sector. Yet, even during lockdowns, La Farándula remained a meeting point, thanks to Tony’s live streams on social media. “I received messages of support from all over. People sent me photos of themselves locked down with their families, thanking me for what I was doing… and even now, recounting this brings tears to my eyes,” he shares emotionally.

The upcoming 20th anniversary celebration, as Tony puts it, will be “throwing the house out the window,” featuring performances from Los Lola, STNV, DJ Javi Chacón, and the Farándula DJs, along with a spectacular show, ‘Movida Ibiza,’ featuring Petit & Vázquez, Passion Dance, and LuGotti Sax.

Food lovers will also rejoice, as popular dishes such as fabada, paella, pata, and garbanzada will be served to all attendees free of charge. The event marks not just a milestone but a collective reunion of past and present friendships.

Since its inception, La Farándula has been a hub for joy, confessions, and friendships. “In 20 years, there have been many phases. In five years, life changes; in 20, you gather friends who have left and those who remain. When I see a customer from 16 years ago walk in, it feels like it was just yesterday,” Tony reflects with warmth.

The doors are wide open for everyone. “Everyone is invited: people from Corralejo, Antigua, Morro Jable, Lanzarote, and Las Palmas. I hear people talk about La Farándula all the time. I hope to see all of you in person, to thank each one of you as you deserve,” Tony invites with genuine enthusiasm.
