Last Friday in Fuerteventura, the Las Palmas College of Physicians held the “Tributes Fuerteventura” event, an annual event dedicated to recognizing the career of medical professionals who are 50 and 25 years old since their degree, as well as welcoming new specialists who finish their residency in 2026. The meeting took place at the Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort and brought together a good part of the island’s medical community in an event focused on professional recognition and companionship. The ceremony included the participation of the president of the College, Elizabeth Hernández; the general secretary, Nicolás Santana; and the members for Fuerteventura Luis Bravo and Miriam Rodríguez. During her intervention, Elizabeth Hernández highlighted the human and professional value of the practice of medicine in island territories such as Fuerteventura, underlining aspects such as closeness to patients, continuity of care and the adaptability of health professionals. “Today we not only celebrate careers; we celebrate a way of being doctors,” said the president during the event. In the category of Golden Anniversary in the profession, Omar Paulino Báez Rodríguez, Miguel González Dalloz and Dulce María Morales Rocha were recognized. For their part, recognition for 25 years of profession went to Orlando Jesús Chirinos Marín, Rafael Antonio Guerra, Magdalena Paszkowska and Noelia María Santana Nuez. The College also welcomed the new specialists in Family and Community Medicine who conclude their residency this year: Yailin Cabrera Hernández, Pablo Castellano Cabrera, Julia Hernández Sentís, Ada María Martín Rivero and Elaine Hilary Theaker. The evening also included musical performances by doctor Sam Izar and concluded with a cocktail dinner and a group photograph with all the honorees.
