Be Free Fuerteventura Festival Returns: A Celebration of Diversity and Culture
From June 22 to 29, 2025, the Be Free Fuerteventura Festival will be back with a vibrant and diverse line-up of activities, coinciding with the pride celebrations on the island. A beacon of LGBTQ+ culture, this festival has evolved into a significant event that promotes inclusivity and community spirit, spearheaded by ALTIHAY Fuerteventura, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Cultural Department, the Puerto del Rosario City Council, and Clapso Productions.
A New Date for a New Beginning
Cultural Counselor Rayco León announced that the festival has shifted to June this year, marking a crucial reclaiming of identities and societal recognition. “This is not just a festive occasion but a crucial cultural opportunity encompassing cinema, poetry, theatre, and various artistic disciplines,” León elaborated. This intentional timing seeks to maximize the festival’s reach and impact within the local community.
Institutional Support: A Collective Effort
The festival enjoys robust backing from various sectors. Tourism Counselor Marlene Figueroa expressed pride in the commendable effort that showcases Fuerteventura’s commitment to freedom and respect. Furthermore, plans for the 2026 edition have already begun, with promotional efforts planned in the UK through Jet2, which will feature Be Free as a significant international Pride event.
Tacoremi Gutiérrez, the Equality Councilor, emphasized the city council’s support from the departments of Equality, Tourism, and Culture, noting the summer timing of the event will amplify its significance.
ALTIHAY Fuerteventura’s president, Carla Soto, conveyed her pride in unveiling the festival’s fourth edition, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of same-sex marriage in Spain. This year’s theme extends pride celebrations beyond major cities, fostering a more inclusive environment that prioritizes culture and diversity.

Israel Reyes of Clapso Productions remarked on the complexities of orchestrating such an ambitious initiative. The festival will continue to evolve, leveraging the change in date to engage a greater audience across the island while emphasizing teamwork.
Event Line-Up: A Festive Outline
The Be Free Fuerteventura Festival is packed with exciting activities starting with the First LGBTQ+ Poetry Contest at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos. On June 23, the LGBTQ+ Film Showcase will kick off at the Insular Auditorium, laying the groundwork for a week full of artistic expression.
On June 26, participants can immerse themselves in a drag workshop led by Grimassira Maeva at the Insular Youth Center. Later that evening, the Pride Concert will feature renowned artists such as Sofía Coll, Jorge González, Kuve, Gara Alemán, and Marta Umpiérrez, promising a night filled with vibrant performances.
Additionally, June 27 will highlight institutional recognition concerning Pride 2025 at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos, including a book presentation by Miquel Fernández and the prestigious ALTIHAY 2025 Awards, culminating in the Fuerte Petarda-Divas In Drags party supported by the Canary Islands Government.
Saturday, June 28, will see the staging of the musical Los Tacones de Papá, followed by a Night of Pride, featuring various DJs and captivating performances.
The festival will draw to a close on June 29 at Playa de los Pozos in Puerto del Rosario with a March for Diversity and Memory, accompanied by the Aqua Drag show and DJ sessions, ensuring a lively finish to a week dedicated to celebrating uniqueness and communal pride.
