A New Era for Healthcare in El Cotillo

A significant milestone in healthcare accessibility has been achieved with the opening of the new medical facility in El Cotillo. This modern infrastructure has been equipped with essential health services: a medical consultation room, a nursing room, an administration area, a treatment room, and a storage area. The implications for local residents are promising and transformative.

On a bright Monday morning, diverse authorities gathered to visit the new Consultorio Médico de El Cotillo, which is set to officially commence operations on Tuesday. Those in attendance included the Mayor of La Oliva, the President of the Cabildo, along with the Director of the Canary Islands Health Service, the Director of Health in Fuerteventura, and the Island’s Health Services Manager. This gathering emphasized the collective commitment to enhancing healthcare quality in the region.

The new facility occupies a generous area of 160 square meters and is located on Avenida de Los Lagos. The space has been thoughtfully designed to serve the community’s needs, featuring dedicated rooms for medical consultations and nursing, along with an administrative section to facilitate operations. The healthcare team consists of a family doctor, a nurse, and an administrative assistant, ensuring a well-rounded approach to healthcare provision.

The establishment of this primary care center signifies a substantial improvement for the Basic Health Zone in La Oliva, particularly in light of the growing healthcare demands associated with the area’s increasing population. Previously, residents of El Cotillo and El Roque had to travel considerable distances to access health services, including the Corralejo Health Center and the consulting offices in La Oliva and Lajares. Now, they can benefit from immediate access to healthcare services within their locality.

The Basic Health Zone of La Oliva currently has approximately 25,986 registered health cards, with around 1,200 representing the communities of El Cotillo and El Roque. This new consultorio will significantly alleviate the need for these residents to travel to more distant healthcare facilities, allowing them quicker and more convenient access to necessary medical care.
