Enhanced Transport Services for “Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje” Festivities in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura, one of the enchanting Canary Islands, is set to celebrate the annual festival in honor of “Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje” from August 16 to 28, 2022. To accommodate the influx of visitors and enhance public transport accessibility during these special days, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, in collaboration with the interurban transport service provider Tiadhe, has announced an upgrade to the bus schedules. This article delves into the specifics of the enhanced transport services that will support these festive occasions.

Special Services for the Festival

The festival, taking place primarily in El Cotillo, is a lively affair that attracts many locals and tourists alike. To ensure smooth transportation around the festival, Tiadhe will bolster the existing bus timetable with several special services. On Friday, August 19, and Saturday, August 20, additional buses will be scheduled mainly after the evening events, known as “verbenas,” to guarantee the safety of attendees returning home.

Enhanced Schedules for Lines 7 and 8

For the bus line 7, which connects Puerto del Rosario to El Cotillo, travelers can expect several new departures. In addition to the regular schedules, buses will leave at 18:00, 20:00, and 22:00 hours, with an additional late-night service at 05:00 hours on both nights. Conversely, returning services will be available from El Cotillo at 19:00, 21:00, 04:00, and a 06:00 bus ensuring the celebration does not end prematurely for revelers.

Line 8, operating between Corralejo and El Cotillo, will also see extended service. During the early hours of Friday and Saturday, additional buses will leave at 05:00 and 07:00 hours from Corralejo to El Cotillo, with return trips starting at 04:00 and 06:00 hours.

Continuing Services Throughout the Week

As the week progresses, additional services will be incorporated. On Wednesday, August 24, line 7 will again increase its frequency with extra buses at 18:00, 20:00, 22:00, and a nighttime service at 01:00. The returning schedule will also adapt to include buses from El Cotillo at 19:00, 21:00, 00:00, and 02:00, offering travelers greater flexibility.

The enhancements continue into the following weekend—August 26 and 27. Line 7 will feature extra departures at 18:00, 20:00, and 22:00, with return trips from El Cotillo at 19:00, 21:00, and a late 05:00 departure. Similarly, line 8 will provide an early morning bus at 06:00 and a return service at 05:00.

A Focus on Safety and Accessibility

To promote safety during the festival, all services on lines 7 and 8 will begin from the Preferred Stop (Parada Preferente) in El Cotillo after 10:00 hours on August 19, 20, 21, 24, 26, and 27. This strategic measure aims to ensure the safety of public transport users and to facilitate the flow of attendees as they participate in the various activities organized for the festival.

Regular Services for Local Residents

Alongside these festival-specific enhancements, the Transportation, Mobility, and Accessibility Department wishes to remind residents that regular bus services are available for those traveling from the southern areas of the island. Lines 01, 10, and 16, along with line 03 from Caleta de Fuste and the Airport, will connect passengers to bus line 07 at the Puerto del Rosario bus station.

Celebrating with Convenience

The concerted effort of local authorities and transport services not only reflects a commitment to community celebration but also to the convenience and safety of all participants. As the festival of “Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje” approaches, attendees can look forward to seamless travel, more opportunities to partake in joyous festivities, and an enriching cultural experience in Fuerteventura.
