Renovation Details
The renovation project, initiated last November, has been executed by the Betancuria Town Hall. Significant work has taken place, including thorough interior and exterior sanitation of walls and ceilings, waterproofing of roofs, reinforcement of structural pillars, and a complete repainting of the building. These updates not only improve the aesthetic appeal of the center but also enhance its functionality and safety for staff and patients alike.
Services Offered
The Vega de Río Palma Health Center operates under the Puerto del Rosario Primary Health Area and currently features a Family and Community Medicine consultation room, along with a nursing consultation room. This facility serves a small, yet essential community of approximately 95 residents. The reopening promises to restore convenient access to healthcare services that many in this area heavily rely on.
Maintaining Healthcare Continuity
During the renovation, the continuity of care remained a priority. As a result, healthcare activities were temporarily transferred to the nearby health centers in Betancuria and Valle de Santa Inés. Expanding Infrastructure in Fuerteventura
Alongside the reopening of the Vega de Río Palma Health Center, Esther Monzón, the Canary Islands’ Health Minister, has shared recent updates regarding other healthcare projects across Fuerteventura. Notably, the Gran Tarajal Health Center in Tuineje is undergoing significant improvements and expansions. With an updated Functional Plan in place, this center will see an increase in size to 4,762 square meters. The expansion will introduce additional health services, including mental health and physiotherapy, catering to the growing demands of the community.
New Developments on the Horizon
In May, the Canary Health Service formalized the contract for constructing the new Corralejo II Dunas Health Center, which will span 3,500 square meters. This single-story building is being designed with accessibility in mind, facilitating easier access for all patients who need care.
Moreover, the project for expanding the Costa Calma local health center in the municipality of Pájara is currently under review. The government is also acting on requests for a new emergency care point at the Antigua Health Center, illustrating the proactive health strategies being implemented across the island.
