Celebrating the Progress: Flag-Raising Ceremony at the ROBINSON Playa de Jandía

On July 3rd, the ROBINSON Playa de Jandía in Fuerteventura hosted a significant flag-raising ceremony, marking an important milestone in its ongoing renovation. This event celebrated the completion of the ten-story tower at the resort, with the flags of Spain, the Canary Islands, and the ROBINSON Club being ceremoniously hoisted to symbolize this achievement.

Notable Attendees

The ceremony attracted a distinguished group of attendees including Blas Acosta, Vice President of the Fuerteventura Council and Insular Tourism Councillor; Rafael Perdomo, Mayor of Pájara; Marisol Placeres, Councillor of Local Development, Training, and Employment; Moisés Jorge Naranjo, Managing Director of the Insular Tourism Board of Fuerteventura; Monti Galmés, CEO of ROBINSON Club in Spain and Portugal; and Miguel Galmés Schwarz, Technical Director of Services and Projects for ROBINSON Club in Spain and Portugal. Their presence underscored the importance of this project for both the local community and tourism growth in the region.

Historical Significance of ROBINSON Club Jandía Playa

Established in 1971, the ROBINSON Club Jandía Playa is not just the first in the brand’s portfolio but has also played a pivotal role in the tourism development of Fuerteventura. Over the decades, it has welcomed more than a million guests, becoming an iconic destination. TUI, the parent company, acknowledges its significance by stating that it has been crucial in shaping the region’s tourist landscape, now undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation to modernize its offerings.

The Renovation Project

The ambitious renovation began with the demolition of the old tower in January 2018, which had been a well-known landmark on the island. Construction of the new ten-story building, standing at 40 meters tall, commenced shortly thereafter. This impressive structure is designed to house 114 double rooms and 26 suites, accompanied by an exterior restaurant, a rooftop terrace, and an infinity pool, all with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Additionally, a beach chill-out area, fitness facilities, and a spa will enhance the guest experience, providing a serene oasis for relaxation.

Originally slated to reopen in December 2018, the project has taken significant strides to modernize the property’s infrastructure and services.

A Brand’s Evolution

The ROBINSON Club Jandía Playa is particularly pivotal in the history of the TUI Group, as it represents the first property under the ROBINSON brand. Its construction materialized between 1965 and 1968, with TUI acquiring it in 1970 and subsequently applying a fresh concept aimed at attracting a younger demographic of travelers. At the time, Fuerteventura lacked essential tourist infrastructure—electricity was reliant on generators and water supply was non-existent, with only a dirt road connecting the airport to the resort.

Fast forward to nearly fifty years later, the ROBINSON brand has expanded significantly, establishing itself worldwide. TUI’s strategy has incorporated the addition of new resorts, with two more set to open in Cape Verde (2019) and Crete (2020), bringing the total to 25 locations across 14 countries.

A Glimpse Into the Future

Images shared during the ceremony provide a sneak peek of the stunning designs set to define the new ROBINSON Playa de Jandía experience. Among these are plans for elegantly designed rooms and captivating rooftop views that promise to offer guests a unique holiday atmosphere. As the renovation continues, all eyes are on the completion date, eagerly anticipating the grand reopening of this beloved establishment.

As Fuerteventura continues to develop as a prime tourist destination, the revitalization of the ROBINSON Playa de Jandía stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences while honoring its historical roots. The successful completion of this project will undoubtedly shape the future of tourism on the island, offering an inviting mix of modern luxury and Caribbean charm.
