On a sunny Wednesday at La Playa de Los Pozos, excitement filled the air as the official launch of the third edition of Puerto Joven was announced. This vibrant initiative, spearheaded by the Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario in partnership with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, is set to transform the beach into a lively meeting point for the youth of the municipality from July 8 to 10.

A Weekend of Thrills and Creativity

The upcoming Puerto Joven promises an array of free activities that are designed to appeal to the diverse interests of young people. Over three days, participants can look forward to an exciting mix of sports, leisure activities, music, creativity, new technologies, and aquatic fun. This event has already secured its status as a significant highlight in the summer calendar of the capital, drawing both locals and visitors alike.

A Commitment to Healthy Leisure

David de Vera, the Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, emphasized the role of Puerto Joven in fostering healthy recreational alternatives for youth. He expressed pride in the project’s ongoing evolution and its ability to become a staple event within the municipal programming. “We aim to continue promoting cultural, sports, and playful initiatives for our young people, creating spaces for enjoyment, camaraderie, and active participation,” he stated. This collaborative effort between the Ayuntamiento and Cabildo of Fuerteventura is vital for driving sociocultural dynamism in the region.

Youth-Driven Programming

Jenifer Pérez, the Councilwoman for Youth, highlighted that the programming for this year has been designed based on input from young residents. “Each edition of Puerto Joven includes new activities that cater to their interests,” she shared. This year, the lineup features exciting beach sports, inflatable water games, workshops, a gaming area, and live music, promising something for everyone. The festival will also spotlight local talent, with performances by Majorero artist ELEDER, culminating in a highly anticipated concert by the Puerto Rican star Brytiago.

Fostering Collaboration

Adargoma Hernández, the Youth Councillor for the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, praised the institutional collaboration in promoting initiatives aimed at the youth population. He noted that Puerto Joven goes beyond mere entertainment; it promotes participation, coexistence, and connections among young individuals across the island. He commended the Ayuntamiento for successfully developing a project that expands every year, becoming increasingly relevant to local youth.

Introducing New Technology

A noteworthy addition to this year’s event is the introduction of a gaming zone, courtesy of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s New Technologies department. Carmen Alonso, the island’s Councillor for New Technologies, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing that today’s video games offer much more than just entertainment. They promote innovation, creativity, and can inspire future careers in technology and employment fields.

Exciting Activities Galore

The programming is packed with engaging activities, including football and beach volleyball tournaments, surf lessons, bodyboarding, kayaking, stand-up paddling, and urban dance workshops that explore styles from jazz funk to K-pop. Children will enjoy specially designed inflatable games, while music and DJ performances will fill the air throughout the event, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.

A Musical Finale

The festival will culminate on July 10 with an exhilarating musical night featuring performances from local talent ELEDER and the much-anticipated concert by Brytiago, one of the leading names in today’s urban music scene. This energetic close promises to leave a lasting impression on attendees, offering them a night to remember.
