Fuerteventura en Música 2026: Celebrating Music, Culture, and Community
The vibrant sands of La Concha Beach once again echoed with the sounds of joy and freedom, reminiscent of the spirit ignited during the inaugural Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) back in 2004. Now, twenty editions later, the festival continues to evolve while preserving its original essence—it’s a celebration of music, culture, and community.
A Historical Perspective
In its early years, the festival, originally dubbed FuerteMúsica, introduced memorable performances, one of which was by Macaco, a pivotal figure who effortlessly won the audience’s hearts. Fast forward to 2026, and Eskorzo took on that mantle, delivering a high-energy performance that literally brought the crowd to their feet in El Cotillo. The connection Eskorzo established with the audience this year was magical, showcasing an impressive mix of rhythms that spanned cumbia, Mediterranean beats, rock, and house.

Celebrating Milestones
Celebrating three decades of musical endeavors, Eskorzo engaged with the crowd, embodying the festival’s core spirit. Their vibrant show mirrored the memorable batucada performance by Macaco two decades ago. Attendees jumped and danced, entranced by the rich fusion of rhythms that resonated through the air. As night fell, thousands of festival-goers returned to their campsites, pleased and energized, ready for the festivities that wordlessly promised to continue throughout the weekend.
A Night Full of Musical Delights
The first night of FEM 2026 gathered an impressive audience of approximately 7,000 music enthusiasts. The organizing body, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, has nurtured the festival as a melting pot of global music and cultural expressions. The day kicked off with vibrant celebrations at El Cotillo’s Muellito, where the batucada Corumba led a lively parade that infused the town with festive energy, heralding the start of a new festival edition.
Marta Umpiérrez, a homegrown artist representing the island, opened the evening with a fresh blend of pop and urban music, supported by over twenty dancers from Datana. Her performance set a lively tone for what would unfold throughout the night.

Following Umpiérrez, Chanela Clicka captivated the crowd with her unique take on alternative flamenco and urban sounds, paving the way for the much-anticipated La Sra. Tomasa. Known for their hybrid musical style, the band excited festival-goers with an engaging performance, marking their return to Fuerteventura after a decade.
Femi Kuti’s Unforgettable Performance
Perhaps one of the night’s most eagerly awaited acts was Femi Kuti & The Positive Force. As the son of the legendary Fela Kuti, Femi effortlessly brought the electrifying essence of afrobeat to the stage. His dynamic performance exuded rhythm and energy, thrilling the audience and reinforcing the festival’s commitment to showcasing diverse musical traditions.

To close the night, Eskorzo returned for an unforgettable encore that celebrated their three decades of musical achievements, culminating in a high-energy fusion of rock, ska, cumbia, reggae, and Mediterranean sounds. The night wound down with DJ Woodhands, who ensured that the festive spirit lingered until the late hours.
Local Talent and Cultural Engagement
Pilar López, a respected communicator from Fuerteventura, took the stage as the host for the evening. Her experience in local radio shone through as she navigated the night, emphasizing the festival’s ongoing dedication to highlighting local talent.
The FEM 2026 event promised more vibrant performances in the following days, welcoming acts like Arife, Queralt Lahoz, Kumbia Boruka, Antonio Carmona, and Pongo. The daytime programming continued the festival’s tradition of filling various venues in El Cotillo with music and cultural activities.

The lively elements of Fuerteventura en Música encapsulate a commitment to diversity, community, and celebration. With each passing year, the festival stands as a testament to the enchanting power of music to unite people from all walks of life.
