Strengthening Economic Ties: Piyush Goyal’s Business Delegation to Europe
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to lead a high-level Indian business delegation to Spain, Belgium, and Finland from July 13 to 17. This visit underscores India’s commitment to enhancing economic relations in Europe, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, technology, innovation, and sustainability. The delegation features prominent Indian companies from diverse sectors, including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, gems and jewellery, food processing, healthcare, and design.
Focus on Spain: Promoting Bilateral Trade and Investment
On July 13, Goyal will kick off the visit in Spain, where he aims to bolster bilateral trade and investment. A significant aspect of this trip is the exploration of opportunities related to the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. Goyal will chair an India-Spain Business Roundtable, bringing together Spanish companies and industry bodies to discuss investment prospects and foster business cooperation.
The agenda includes a Business Roundtable with key organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, CEOE, and ICEX Spain Trade & Investment. This gathering will unite leaders from both Indian and Spanish industries to delve into sectors like automotive, renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, food processing, and tourism. Notably, Spanish firms like Iberdrola, Acciona, and Talgo have established a robust presence in India, while Indian giants such as TCS, Infosys, and Wipro are expanding their footprint in Spain, particularly in digitalization and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
This visit coincides with the Spain-India Dual Year 2026, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations and emphasizing the importance of business partnerships between the two nations.
Insights into Belgium: Logistics and Diamond Supply Chain
Following Spain, Goyal will head to Belgium on July 14 and 15, where he plans to visit the Port of Antwerp and the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. These visits are crucial for understanding Europe’s key logistics hub and the diamond supply chain, particularly in terms of certification and responsible sourcing. The insights gained here will be invaluable for India’s gems and jewellery sector, which is keen on expanding its global reach.
In Belgium, Goyal will engage in CEO-level discussions with leaders from prominent companies such as Alain Queverin of Thales Group, a leader in aerospace, defence, cybersecurity, and digital identity, and Jean-Christophe Bogaert of Silox Group, which specializes in chemicals and recycling. Both companies have established significant partnerships in India, particularly in Gujarat, focusing on battery recycling and other collaborative ventures.
Additionally, Goyal will participate in the India-EU Business Roundtable and co-chair the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Ministerial Meeting in Brussels. This council represents the highest institutional mechanism for trade, trusted technology, and economic security cooperation between India and the EU, making this meeting a pivotal moment for future collaborations.
Exploring Innovation in Finland: A Focus on Advanced Technologies
The final leg of Goyal’s trip will take place in Finland on July 16 and 17, where he has been invited by the Finnish Prime Minister. The focus here will be on enhancing partnerships in innovation, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, and industrial research. Goyal is scheduled for a bilateral meeting with Dr. Sakari Puisto, the Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland, to discuss collaborative opportunities.
During his time in Finland, Goyal will attend the India-Finland Business Roundtable, which will involve Finnish companies engaged in digitalization, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and the circular economy. A notable highlight will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Confederation of Indian Industry and Business Finland, aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation.
Goyal’s itinerary includes visits to leading Finnish firms and research institutions such as Nokia Corporation, VTT Research Centre, KONE Corporation, and Kemppi Group. These visits are designed to explore collaboration in various fields, including telecom infrastructure, 6G research, smart mobility, advanced manufacturing, EV charging infrastructure, frontier technologies, and sustainable mobility.

The Indian business delegation accompanying Goyal is a testament to the diverse sectors represented in this initiative.
