Strengthening Economic Ties: Piyush Goyal’s High-Level Delegation to Europe
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to lead a high-profile Indian business delegation on a five-day journey across Spain, Belgium, and Finland from July 13 to 17. This visit aims to bolster economic partnerships with Europe, focusing on trade, investment, technology, innovation, and sustainability.
A Diverse Delegation
The delegation comprises prominent Indian companies from various sectors, including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, gems and jewellery, food processing, healthcare, and design. This diverse representation underscores India’s capabilities in manufacturing and innovation, and the visit is designed to expand business collaborations while showcasing these strengths on an international stage.
Kicking Off in Spain
The first stop on this European tour is Spain, where Goyal will engage in a business roundtable organized in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, CEOE, and ICEX Spain Trade & Investment. This meeting, scheduled for July 13, will bring together industry leaders from both nations to explore opportunities in key sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, food processing, and tourism.
Notably, this visit coincides with the Spain-India Dual Year 2026, which celebrates 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This timing is expected to inject fresh momentum into business-to-business partnerships. Several Spanish companies, including Iberdrola, Acciona, CAF, Talgo, Gestamp, and Indra, already have a significant presence in India. Conversely, Indian firms like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Larsen & Toubro are expanding their operations in Spain to support digitalization and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Engaging with Belgium
The delegation will then move to Belgium on July 14 and 15, where Goyal plans to visit the Port of Antwerp and the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. The focus of the port visit will be on best practices in multimodal connectivity, green logistics, and resilient supply chains. At the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, discussions will revolve around the global diamond value chain, responsible sourcing, certification, and opportunities for India’s gems and jewellery industry.
Additionally, Goyal will hold CEO-level meetings with senior executives from Thales Group and Silox Group. These discussions are expected to cover a range of topics, including aerospace, defence, cybersecurity, digital identity, specialty chemicals, battery recycling, and sustainable manufacturing. The India-EU Business Roundtable and the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Plenary will further emphasize foreign direct investment, trade facilitation, sustainable technologies, and strengthening resilient supply chains.
The Finnish Connection
The final leg of the visit will take place in Finland on July 16 and 17. Goyal will participate in the India-Finland Business Roundtable, engaging with leading Finnish companies involved in digitalization, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and the circular economy.
A significant highlight of this segment will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Business Finland, aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation between businesses in both countries.
Goyal’s itinerary also includes visits to major Finnish corporations such as Nokia Corporation, where discussions will focus on telecom infrastructure and 6G research; Kone Corporation, which specializes in smart mobility and advanced manufacturing; and Kemppi Group, known for industrial machinery and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Additionally, a visit to the VTT Technical Research Centre will explore potential collaborations in frontier technologies and applied research.
A Broad Spectrum of Indian Companies
The Indian delegation features a variety of companies, including Borosil Renewables, Motherson Group, Trivitron Healthcare, Hari Krishna Exports, and Nekkanti Seafoods. These firms represent sectors ranging from clean technology and healthcare to food processing and gems and jewellery, showcasing the breadth of India’s industrial capabilities.
Focus Areas for Collaboration
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the primary focus of the Europe visit will be to advance cooperation in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital and frontier technologies, gems and jewellery, and food and consumer industries. The government anticipates that engagements with industry leaders, business chambers, and technology institutions will create new opportunities for trade, investment, and technology collaboration. This initiative aims to reinforce India’s position as a trusted global partner in manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable growth.
This high-level delegation represents a significant step toward enhancing India’s economic footprint in Europe, fostering partnerships that could yield long-term benefits for both regions.
