New Commercial Center Opens in Caleta de Fuste: A Boost for the Local Economy

Today marks an exciting milestone for the residents and visitors of Caleta de Fuste, as the new Fund Grube shopping center officially opened its doors. This significant development has been made possible through a collaborative effort driven by the local government of Antigua, resulting in a private investment of 1.4 million euros.

The Journey to Inauguration

The opening of Fund Grube is a direct result of the II Tourism Modernization Plan approved two years ago, aimed at revitalizing the commercial landscape of Caleta de Fuste. The effort was spearheaded by the town’s mayor, Matías Peña García, who emphasized the importance of this initiative during the inauguration. In his speech, he expressed gratitude towards the Brome family and the developer, Impulsora de Comercio y Desarrollo, S.L., for their commitment to establishing a commercial hub in the area.

Peña also took a moment to acknowledge the tireless work of the municipal technical team, whose efforts were instrumental in bringing the modernization plan to fruition.

A Boost for Employment

The Fund Grube center spans an area of over 900 square meters and is not just a new shopping destination; it is also expected to generate over 20 new direct jobs within the retail space. This employment boost is a welcome contribution to the local economy, enhancing opportunities for residents seeking work in retail and customer service.

A Diverse Shopping Experience

The new shopping center promises an exciting mix of international brands, catering to a diverse clientele. Shoppers can now find cosmetics and fragrances from high-end brands like Chanel, Dior, and Lancôme, alongside fashion retailers such as GAP Kids and HOKA. Notably, the store will also introduce popular new additions like Jo Malone and Dolce & Gabbana Make Up.

The retail environment is designed to be both functional and inviting, offering a section dedicated to local products, showcasing the unique offerings of the region, which adds a layer of community support to the shopping experience.

Enhancing Public Spaces

Beyond retail, the agreements that enabled this development have also led to the creation of a 2,300-square-meter public park adjacent to the commercial center. This green space is not just about aesthetics; it includes urban furniture, landscaped areas, and terraced seating, providing a welcoming spot for leisure and community engagement.

Mayor Matías Peña highlighted that the park was acquired at no cost to the municipality, representing an added benefit of the development agreement. This initiative reflects a holistic approach to urban development, ensuring that the community has access to both shopping and recreational spaces.

Collaboration is Key

The inauguration event was attended by a number of notable figures, including Nereida Calero, a representative of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, and Senator Paloma Hernández, both of whom underscored the importance of collaboration among different levels of government and private entities to achieve such significant progress in community development.

In summary, the opening of Fund Grube represents a pivotal moment for Caleta de Fuste, combining commercial growth with public improvement. The investment not only enhances the shopping experience but also strengthens employment opportunities and community spaces—an exemplary model for future development projects in the region.
