Puerto del Rosario’s 2026 Budget: A Commitment to Community Growth

The recent approval of Puerto del Rosario’s General Budget for 2026 marks a significant milestone for the local government. With a total of €63,347,397.75, this budget reflects an impressive 12% increase from the previous year, highlighting the municipality’s enhanced economic capacity.

Strengthening Public Services

A substantial focus of this budget is on reinforcing essential public services. Over €49 million is allocated to current expenses and personnel costs, which are critical for the smooth operation of municipal services. This investment ensures that services such as urban cleaning, waste collection and treatment, and the maintenance of municipal buildings are adequately funded.

In detail, €3.5 million will be dedicated to urban cleaning and waste management. The budget also includes funding for the upkeep of public lighting, set at nearly €2.5 million, and approximately €2.4 million for maintaining parks, gardens, and green spaces. This financial backing emphasizes the city’s commitment to a clean and sustainable environment.

Moreover, with personnel costs exceeding €21.8 million, the budget will significantly enhance workforce capabilities in crucial areas, including public safety, social services, urban planning, and general administration.

Boosting Municipal Investments

The 2026 budget reiterates a strong commitment to real investments, with over €4.3 million earmarked for projects that promise to yield visible benefits for the municipality. Among the planned initiatives are the rehabilitation and improvement of public roads and sidewalks, advancements in universal accessibility, and pedestrianizing Avenida Primero de Mayo.

Other focus areas include urban development improvements in neighborhoods and towns, and the enhancement of parks and shaded areas that provide residents with inviting outdoor spaces. The budget also allocates funds for upgrading public facilities, including significant enhancements to the Municipal Library and local cultural and sports centers. Notably, projects along the coastline, such as the renovation of promenades and beaches, will receive financial attention.

Social Protection Initiatives

A noteworthy feature of the budget is the allocation of over €2.5 million for direct transfers and aid to families and social entities. This funding will sustain crucial programs such as home assistance, tele-assistance, and support for the elderly, children, and families in need.

Emergency social assistance will see over €350,000 to aid those facing challenging circumstances, while continued support for community organizations advocating for people with disabilities remains a priority. The budget also extends partnerships and grants to social, health, and equality organizations, echoing the city’s commitment to a cohesive and supportive community.

Promoting Education, Culture, and Sports

The 2026 budget equally emphasizes the importance of education, culture, sports, and citizen participation. Resources are allocated for improving educational infrastructure, covering educational programs and school transport. Cultural programming, local festivities, and support for cultural and sporting associations are also financially backed, fostering community engagement through recreational activities.

Financial Stability and Responsibility

Maintaining sound financial management, the budget keeps financial expenses at a minimal level while establishing a contingency fund to address unforeseen expenses. This strategic approach ensures prudent management and long-term stability for the municipality.

Mayor David de Vera expressed enthusiasm about the budget, indicating it strengthens the local government’s ability to meet the community’s real needs while further solidifying essential services and strategic investments.

Juan Manuel Verdugo, the Councilor for Economy and Finance, emphasized the meticulous planning behind the budget. He noted it is geared toward economic growth directed at improving the city’s quality of life without incurring unnecessary expenditures or risking financial stability.

As Puerto del Rosario moves forward with the initial approval of these accounts, the budget sets the foundation for a year focused on the consolidation and enhancement of municipal services that will ultimately enrich the quality of life for all residents.
