Puerto del Rosario Initiates Free Digital Skills Training
The town council of Puerto del Rosario has taken significant steps towards enhancing digital literacy among its residents by announcing a collaborative effort with local community associations. This initiative aims to bring free training programs in digital competencies closer to cultural centers across the municipality.
A Broader Initiative in Fuerteventura
Recently presented by the Island Council (Cabildo) of Fuerteventura and the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), this program is designed to train a staggering 1,851 people specifically in Fuerteventura. The broader goal encompasses reaching 17,488 individuals throughout the province of Las Palmas over a span of 21 months.
Financing and Partnerships
The project has been awarded to Adecco Formación and boasts a substantial financial backing of €1,983,838, courtesy of the Next Generation EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. This investment reflects a commitment to enhancing digital skill sets essential for all members of the community.
Making Training Accessible
One of the most notable features of this initiative is its focus on accessibility. The town council is working closely with community associations to ensure that this free training is available locally in cultural venues. This strategy aims to make digital education more reachable for everyone, particularly those who may find traditional educational avenues challenging.
Program Structure and Focus
The training program itself will be delivered in a face-to-face format, consisting of a minimum of 7.5 hours. It is designed to equip participants with fundamental digital skills, including effective online communication, managing administrative tasks digitally, and conducting electronic transactions.
Target Audience
Special attention will be given to individuals who typically face barriers in accessing such training. This includes seniors, low-income individuals, those with limited educational backgrounds, and residents of rural areas. The program is aligned with the objective of fostering inclusivity in digital literacy training, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their starting point, has the opportunity to advance their skills.
Commitment to Gender Equality
In a commendable effort to encourage gender parity, the initiative aims to ensure that at least 50% of the participants are women. This aligns with broader recovery goals and emphasizes equal opportunity in digital skill development. Special actions will also prioritize smaller municipalities and foster collaboration with social entities.
Reducing the Digital Divide
The town council highlights the importance of this initiative as a vital tool for bridging the digital divide. By enhancing digital competences, the program not only supports individual growth but also enhances overall employability within the municipality.
Statements from Key Figures
During the program’s presentation, the Director of ACIISI, Javier Franco, underscored the strategic importance of this training for Fuerteventura. He reiterated its potential to increase opportunities and bolster economic development in the region. Similarly, Carmen Alonso, the councilor for New Technologies at the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, stressed the significance of providing digital tools to improve the daily lives of all citizens.
Call to Action for Community Involvement
In a passionate appeal, the Department of New Technologies and Citizen Participation urges all local community associations to join in on this initiative. By helping disseminate information and promote participation, these associations can play a crucial role in ensuring that this training reaches every corner of the municipality.
The Vision Ahead
The overarching aim of this initiative is clear: to bring digital training to neighborhoods and guarantee that no one is left behind in the digital transformation journey. By working collaboratively, the Ayuntamiento of Puerto del Rosario and local associations can foster a more digitally inclusive future for all.
