Fuerteventura en Música: Celebrating 22 Editions of Vibrant Sounds

An Eclectic Lineup in a Stunning Setting

As the sun sets over the breathtaking beaches of Fuerteventura, the rhythm of summer kicks off with the 22nd edition of Fuerteventura en Música (FEM). Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Playa de la Concha in El Cotillo, this year’s festival, happening on July 5 and 6, brings together an eclectic array of artists, promising an unforgettable weekend of music, culture, and community.

Headliners to Watch

On the first night, the tantalizing beat will be driven by La Plazuela, a dynamic duo from Granada. Comprising Manuel Hidalgo Sierra and Luis Abril Martín, La Plazuela blends flamenco with electronic music and nu-funko, redefining traditional sounds. With their upcoming second album slated for release, fans can expect hits like “Bulerías de La Guardia” and “Alegrías de la Ragua”.

Equally electrifying, the performance by Iseo & Dodosound is set to resonate with energy. This duo promises a high-energy show that interweaves new tracks and remixes with Iseo’s powerful vocals and Dodosound’s distinctive soundscapes.

On the same night, attendees can look forward to Francisco El Hombre, an influential independent band from Latin America. Their single “Triste, Louca ou Má” has become an anthem for female empowerment, earning them a Latin Grammy nomination. The lineup also includes Green Valley, a six-member collective known for their vibrant reggae and dancehall performances that carry socially conscious messages.

Local Talent Shines Bright

The festival not only features renowned artists but also shines a spotlight on local talent. Supawayah, a local trio consisting of two majoreros and a Venezuelan, blends funk, metal, hip-hop, punk, and reggae, creating a fresh sound that reflects the island’s musical diversity.

A Second Night of Iconic Sounds

The excitement continues on July 6 with the highly respected rap group SDFK, featuring Zatu (Saturnino Rey) and Acción Sánchez (Óscar Sánchez). Known for their long-standing career, SDFK has earned a solid reputation both in Spain and internationally. Their powerful lyrics and engaging performances continue to captivate audiences, making them a must-see at FEM.

Following their act, Systema Solar, a Colombian music and visual collective, will take the stage. They are known for their Afro-Caribbean sounds and unique ‘Berbenautika’ performances, an immersive experience blending music with vibrant visual displays.

Iseo performing live

Equally engaging will be the Balkan Paradise Orchestra, a group of female musicians from Catalonia known for their universally appealing musical style. Their performances transport listeners through vibrant melodies and dynamic rhythms, earning them recognition far beyond their home borders.

Eclectic Euphoria with Ant Cosmos

The second night concludes with the eclectic sounds of Ant Cosmos, a project led by Javier Auserón. With a background enriched by its roots in Gran Canaria and experiences in Madrid, Ant Cosmos captivates with a blend of indie, house, reggaetón, and bedroom pop.

Preserving the Local Culture and Economy

Festival president Lola García emphasizes FEM’s commitment to promoting environmental respect, fostering a meeting point for diverse cultures, and showcasing local artists. This festival not only brings entertainment to the area but also aims to stimulate the northern territory’s economy through its collaborative efforts with local businesses.

As the waves crash against the shoreline, Fuerteventura en Música promises to deliver more than just melodies; it serves as a celebration of artistry, community, and the natural beauty of this Canary Island.
