The Cabildo of Fuerteventura continues to advance in the implementation of the Insular Plan for Childhood and Adolescence, after monitoring the first year of execution with a positive balance by the Internal Commission for Childhood and Adolescence. The plan, promoted by the Insular Children’s Service and dependent on the Ministry of Social Action, Diversity, LGTBIQ+, Citizen Participation and Open Government, directed by Víctor Alonso, has the involvement of different areas of the Cabildo and the Insular Council for Children and Adolescents. On March 27, a working meeting was held in which the progress made to date was analyzed, as well as the actions underway within the Island Council. During the meeting, key aspects were addressed such as the collection of data on the execution of the plan and the reinforcement of coordination between departments for the development of new initiatives. One of the objectives set is to have updated and complete information before next June, the date on which a monitoring report must be sent to UNICEF on the degree of execution of the plan on the island. Councilor Víctor Alonso highlighted that these types of actions allow “promoting the active participation of children and adolescents, promoting their role in the construction of a more inclusive society committed to their rights.” Active participation of boys and girls Coinciding with this meeting, a new session of the Island Council for Children and Adolescents was also held, which brings together children’s representatives from the different municipalities of Fuerteventura. This body, which meets monthly, addresses issues related to children’s rights in line with the initiatives promoted by UNICEF. On this occasion, the session included sports activities and traditional games within the ‘No Olvides Lo Nuestro’ program, in collaboration with the Sports Department. According to Víctor Alonso, this initiative seeks to value the cultural heritage of the Archipelago and promote the right to play, generating spaces for meeting and participation among the youngest. With this monitoring, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura reaffirms its commitment to policies aimed at children and adolescents, betting on their active participation and the development of actions that contribute to improving their well-being and guaranteeing their rights.
