Concerns Over Road Safety in El Cotillo
The Partido Popular (PP) of La Oliva has raised an urgent request to the governing group of CC-AM and PSOE to enhance the lighting at the entrance to El Cotillo. According to party members, the lack of visibility at this access point, particularly at night, poses a significant risk. This entrance is not just a thoroughfare but one of the key access points to a growing tourist enclave that attracts a multitude of visitors year-round.
José Vicente Calero, the local spokesperson for the PP, has described the current situation as “unacceptable,” given the critical role public lighting plays in road safety. He stressed that improving illumination is imperative not only for ensuring safety but also for preserving the municipality’s image as a tourist destination. With the increasing number of visitors, the importance of having well-lit and safe access routes becomes even more pronounced.
The Need for Effective Planning
Nereida Rodríguez, a councilor for the Partido Popular, has also voiced her concerns regarding the local government’s lack of responsiveness to basic infrastructure needs. She points out that the rapid growth of El Cotillo in recent years makes this oversight especially perplexing. Rodríguez warns that the absence of proper planning is leading to preventable situations that directly affect the safety of both residents and visitors alike.
Both Calero and Rodríguez emphasize that safety measures should not be seen merely as optional enhancements, but as necessary steps in response to a burgeoning population and tourist influx. As El Cotillo continues to attract more tourists, the importance of appropriate infrastructure planning becomes even clearer, underscoring the potential risks that inadequate lighting and poorly conceived access points entail.
This situation calls for a collaborative approach between local authorities and community stakeholders to adequately address these pressing safety issues. By prioritizing public safety through improved lighting and infrastructure planning, El Cotillo can not only enhance the safety of its residents but also fortify its reputation as a favorable tourist destination.
