Festival SOCO: Celebrating 15 Years of Cultural Relevance

Kicking off the celebration, Festival SOCO will take place on April 2nd and 3rd in the charming Plaza Vieja of El Cotillo. This marks the festival’s 15th edition, continuing its tradition of showcasing alternative artists from the Canary Islands. Organized in collaboration with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Analogic Foundation, SOCO has established itself as a cultural cornerstone both locally and beyond.

On Thursday, April 2nd, festival-goers can anticipate performances from a variety of artists, including DJ Skull, Bio, Perdxmo, and Loopn Loompa, among others. The excitement continues on Friday, April 3rd, featuring acts like Amakó, Don Virgilio, and Chocolate Sexy, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with music and energy.

Emphasis on Family-Friendly Activities

The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, emphasized the importance of these festivities for the community, stating, “Semana Santa is lived in El Cotillo, with great music and activities to enjoy with the family over several days.” This family-friendly focus is evident in the diverse range of events planned, attracting individuals and families alike.

Festival Marea Cultural: A Day for Everyone

Complementing the excitement of the Festival SOCO, Festival Marea Cultural will take place on Saturday, April 4th. This event is specially crafted for audiences of all ages, making it an excellent option for family outings. Beginning at 11:00 AM, the day will feature children’s workshops, games, and engaging musical activities.

In the afternoon, starting at 6:00 PM, participants can look forward to a participatory workshop focusing on African dance and percussion, fostering creativity and inclusion. Such interactive sessions encourage community engagement and provide enriching experiences for all attendees.

Evening Festivities: Music and Dance

As the sun sets, the festivities will continue with a lively verbena beginning at 8:00 PM. This evening celebration promises to warm up El Cotillo with performances from local favorites such as La Banda del Cuco, Tribu – G Tribute to Hombres G, Nuevo Klan, Grupo Arena, and Grupo Kandela. The mix of musical styles ensures that everyone will find something to enjoy, making it an unmissable part of the Semana Santa experience.

A Lasting Cultural Impact
