Fuertegourmet Holds Its General Assembly and Elects a New Board of Directors

Fostering Culinary Excellence: The Recent Assembly of the Asociación Fuertegourmet

On June 11th at 10:30 AM, the Asociación Fuertegourmet convened its Ordinary General Assembly, gathering passionate chefs and restaurateurs dedicated to promoting Majorcan gastronomy and advocating for the use of KM 0 products. This vibrant association comprises over 120 members scattered throughout the island, with more than 30 attending the assembly, showcasing the collective commitment to local culinary traditions.

Celebrating Accomplishments: Key Activities of 2024

The assembly commenced with an overview of the activities undertaken throughout 2024. Notably, the association has showcased the island’s culinary richness at prestigious gastronomic fairs, including Madrid Fusion and the Bienal del Arroz in Cullera, Valencia. They also made a notable appearance at the first National Championship ‘Destapa las Legumbres’ held in Valladolid, alongside Forum Gastronomic events in both A Coruña and Barcelona.

Locally, several initiatives have brought gastronomic culture directly to the community. Markets in Puerto del Rosario welcomed cruise passengers, while events like Los Lajares de Tapeo and the gastronomic showcase at Feaga 2024 enriched local engagement. Sports events, including Paladea 2024 and the Baifo Extreme, have also served as platforms to promote Majorca’s culinary delights. Show-cookings and workshops have educated attendees on preparing the island’s exquisite dishes, further bridging the gap between chefs and food enthusiasts.

Launching the Island’s Gastronomic Guide

A significant milestone presented during the assembly was the launch of the insular gastronomic guide now available on the association’s website. This guide serves not only as a resource for locals and tourists alike but also as a testament to the diverse offerings of the island’s culinary scene, promoting local ingredients and dishes.

Financial Health and Strategic Changes

The assembly also addressed financial matters, with the annual accounts revealing robust fiscal health for the association. This stability has enabled Fuertegourmet to fulfill its objectives effectively while supporting its members. Perhaps the most pivotal moment came with the proposed amendments to the association’s statutes. Adjustments aimed to transform Fuertegourmet into a professional organization, proactively advocating for the rights and interests of chefs and restaurants before local, regional, and national administrations. Many restaurant members currently feel inadequately represented, underscoring the necessity for this evolution.

Leadership Transition and Future Goals

As part of the assembly’s agenda, the election of the new board was a key highlight. A singular consensus list was presented, proposing Gustavo Astrada Riera of La Mamma in Corralejo as president. He would be accompanied by Rigoberto Almeida from El Pellizco as vice president, representing the southern region, and Alexis Morales Torres from El Invernadero for the central area, along with Ángel Lirio from Casa Cecilia in Corralejo for the north. Nine other board members, including a treasurer and secretary, were also elected to ensure diverse representation across the island.

The newly elected leadership articulated ambitious goals aimed at bolstering the promotion of local gastronomy and supporting KM 0 products. Their objectives include providing professional training for chefs, increasing job opportunities within the culinary sector, and enhancing quality standards in member establishments through a new quality seal. They are committed to forging partnerships with cooking schools and continuing participation in key gastronomic events.

Upon conclusion of the voting process, the new board was elected unanimously. President Gustavo Astrada Riera took the opportunity to express gratitude for the trust placed in him, particularly acknowledging the efforts of the outgoing board, especially past president Blas Rodríguez Melián.
