El Campeonato de Canarias de Rallysprint – CCRS: Thrills and Triumphs in Fuerteventura

Last Saturday, the Campeonato de Canarias de Rallysprint (CCRS) reached an exhilarating milestone with its third scoring event of the season, staged on the scenic island of Fuerteventura. The much-anticipated Rallysprint de Antigua was successfully organized by a coalition of local clubs including Tibiabín, Adael, Fuertemotor, and Betan. The air was thick with excitement as racers and fans alike gathered to witness some fierce competition.

Winners of the Day: Edgar Camacho and José Carballo

Dominating the event were the skilled drivers Edgar Camacho and José Carballo from the Club ADEA, who expertly maneuvered their VW Golf GTI in Group F. Their impressive victory not only awarded them the coveted title at this rally but also propelled them to the top of the championship standings, positioning them as strong contenders for the regional title. Their victory was further celebrated with the prestigious Premio Gobierno de Canarias and FCA, presented directly by the regional president, Miguel Ángel Domínguez.

A Twist of Fate

The event saw many unexpected twists, particularly concerning the favorites in the competition. As the rally unfolded, several incidents among the frontrunners opened the door for less favored vehicles to shine. Throughout the rally, Camacho and Carballo remained near the lead. However, in a surprising turn of events in the final stage, the clear leaders Esteban Feo and Jonathan Hernández, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, faced an unexpected mechanical failure. This unfortunate incident wiped out their earlier advantage of nearly 45 seconds, allowing Camacho and Carballo to seize the moment and ultimately secure their win.

The Importance of Consistency

A critical factor in the success of Camacho and Carballo has been their consistency throughout the season. As one of the few teams to participate in all three of the current events, their strategic approach to rallying is beginning to pay off handsomely. Regular participation not only builds experience but also fosters team cohesion, vital elements in competitive environments like this.
