El Cabildo de Fuerteventura Launches ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ Project
In an exciting new initiative, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has unveiled the ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ project, aimed at transforming telecentres and youth spaces throughout the island into vibrant hubs for digital leisure, creativity, and educational opportunities related to video gaming. Spearheaded by the Minister of New Technologies, Carmen Alonso, this project seeks to bring the world of gaming closer to the youth of Fuerteventura.
A Hub for Digital Leisure
The ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ initiative encompasses a variety of activities designed to appeal to gamers of all ages and experience levels. From esports leagues and video game creation workshops to competitive board games and digital escape rooms, there’s something for everyone. Some of the key features include the Gaming Inter-Telecentros League, which will track rankings in popular games like Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Fortnite. Weekly challenges will allow players to earn points from their respective municipalities leading up to a thrilling final showdown.
Diverse Activities and Workshops
The planned activities are extensive and diverse, highlighting the project’s emphasis on gamification in learning and leisure. Participants can immerse themselves in retro gaming sessions featuring classic consoles, undertake speedrun challenges, develop mini-games using platforms like Scratch, Godot, or Roblox Studio, and even attend workshops focused on streaming and content creation.
Moreover, interactive experiences in virtual reality and live-action role-playing games offer innovative approaches to entertainment. The project also features engaging tabletop competition events for card games like Lorcana and Pokémon TCG, ensuring that beginners and seasoned players alike can find their niche in this expansive gaming environment.
Kickoff Events: Día Gaming
To officially kick off the initiative, the Cabildo is organizing several “Día Gaming” events, open to young people, families, and gaming enthusiasts. These gatherings will blend competitive gaming in titles like Clash Royale, Fortnite, Mario Kart, and FC24 with engaging workshops in areas such as 3D printing and Roblox Studio designed for creating custom games.
The inaugural events are scheduled to take place at various cultural centers across the island:
- Centro Cultural de Lajares on February 27, from 4 PM to 8 PM
- Centro Cultural de El Matorral on February 28, from 11 AM to 6 PM
- Casa de la Juventud in Morro Jable on March 7, from 11 AM to 6 PM
Detailed information and registration for these events can be accessed via cabildofuer.es.
Dedicated Zones and Activities
Each event venue will be equipped with designated areas for tournaments, beginner workshops, retro gaming, and interactive activities. One standout feature will be “El Tablero del Jugón,” a live trivia game filled with exciting challenges such as miming gamer actions, guessing soundtracks from popular games, and locating bugs in video game scenes.
Promoting Digital Culture and Inclusivity
Minister Carmen Alonso emphasizes that the goal of this project is to make video game culture accessible to everyone across the island, utilizing telecentres as modern, dynamic spaces for youth creativity. “We want every girl or boy in Fuerteventura, regardless of where they live, to have the chance to compete, learn programming, dive into streaming, or simply share their passion for gaming in a safe and supportive environment,” she states.
Invitation to Participate
Alonso encourages families, young people, and gaming enthusiasts to join the Día Gaming events in Lajares, Morro Jable, and El Matorral. She describes these events as ideal opportunities for discovering new activities, teaming up with fellow gamers, and showcasing the island’s digital talent.
Looking Ahead to Future Events
The calendar for the Gaming Inter-Telecentros League and additional activities will continue to expand in the following months, culminating in a significant island-wide final that will celebrate the engagement and dedication of all participating telecentres.
Collaboration with Local Municipalities
Lastly, the Cabildo’s Ministry of New Technologies extends its gratitude to the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, and La Oliva for their essential support in launching these initial days and working to bring this exciting project closer to the youth of Fuerteventura.
