The XI Trotadunas: A Celebration of Sport and Solidarity in Puerto del Rosario

The Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario has officially launched the XI edition of the Carrera Popular y Solidaria Trotadunas, a cherished event on the municipality’s sports calendar. Scheduled for April 25 at Playa Chica, the race will kick off at 10:30 AM and is expected to draw nearly 380 participants. With over 300 registered days ahead of the event, it’s clear this popular race is not to be missed.

A Multifaceted Event

Mayor David de Vera emphasized that Trotadunas is much more than just a sports competition. “We’re talking about an event that fosters citizen participation, social commitment, and a vibrant atmosphere that makes every edition something truly special for Puerto del Rosario,” he remarked. His statement highlights the event’s ability to unite the community and promote a spirit of inclusiveness. De Vera also expressed the Ayuntamiento’s unwavering support for grassroots initiatives that engage the entire island.

The Joy of Continuity

Antonio Rodríguez, vice president of CD Trotadunas, shared the excitement of reaching this milestone edition. “After eleven years, we continue to share the same passion, albeit with the nerve of ensuring everything goes smoothly,” he said. Rodriguez pointed out that Trotadunas serves not just as a sports event but as a conduit for solidarity, with proceeds directed toward FuerteYoga, reinforcing the charitable aspect of the race.

Beyond Fitness

Luis González, the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, underscored the social significance of Trotadunas. “This event promotes physical activity, which is crucial in itself, but it also creates a significant social impact,” he said. González encouraged residents to participate and even revealed his own registration for the 5-kilometer race, inviting others to join the fun.

Institutional Collaboration

The event benefits from robust institutional collaboration. Sports Councillor Luis Chacón remarked on the importance of the joint efforts between the Ayuntamiento and the Cabildo. “This collaboration proves that working together can lead to results that benefit everyone,” he stated. He also plans to participate despite some physical discomfort, showing his dedication to the cause.

Cultural Enrichment

Cultural Councillor Juan Manuel Verdugo highlighted the additional value brought by the related cultural programming. “This isn’t just about sport; it’s a full-day event, and live music will follow the race, creating a vibrant atmosphere that also stimulates the local economy,” he explained. Such events connect various facets of community life, bringing an ongoing vitality that enhances the municipality.

Race Logistics

Participants can collect their race numbers on April 23 and 24 from 4 PM at the Centro Comercial Las Rotondas. The 5-kilometer route will maintain its previous designs, while the 10-kilometer course will introduce interesting new elements, extending through dirt pathways before returning to the finish line.

A Day of Connection

As the XI Trotadunas concludes, it will feature live music performances, transforming the event into a community gathering that invites not just runners but also local residents and visitors to partake in the engaging atmosphere. The celebration is designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring everyone has a chance to enjoy the festivities and support a good cause.
