La Feria Agrícola, Ganadera y Pesquera de Fuerteventura (FEAGA) Kicks Off: An Insight into the 38th Edition

This Thursday saw the grand opening of the 38th edition of La Feria Agrícola, Ganadera y Pesquera de Fuerteventura (FEAGA), marking a significant moment in the island’s agricultural calendar. With an impressive turnout from the sector, this year’s fair not only expanded its activities but also embraced innovative approaches aimed at improving transmission and accessibility for attendees.

Key Figures in Attendance

The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Lola García, the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Fernando Clavijo, the president of the Canary Islands Government, along with other key representatives such as Enrique Pérez, the insular agriculture, livestock, and fishing counselor, and Narvay Quintero, the regional counselor. Their presence underscored the importance of FEAGA to the local economy and community.

A Celebration of Local Traditions

Lola García emphasized that FEAGA is much more than just an event; it is a reflection of the hard work put forth by numerous individuals, showcasing local products, traditions, and the dedication of those sustaining Fuerteventura’s primary sector. She noted that this year’s edition, particularly buoyed by recent rains that have rejuvenated the landscape, is focused on agriculture—a sector noted for its innovation, adaptation, and diversification. Throughout the three days of the fair, attendees can look forward to a variety of activities celebrating agricultural, livestock, and fishing efforts.

Institutional Support and Future Directions

García did not shy away from discussing the financial support provided to the sector, stating that over nine million euros were allocated in the past year by the Cabildo to sustain competitiveness. She recognized the current challenges posed by international conflicts affecting the local economy and assured that the institution would continue to support those in the primary sector.

Meanwhile, Fernando Clavijo highlighted agriculture’s pivotal role in the development of Fuerteventura, promoting the fair as a showcase of the resilience and growth potential of the island’s agricultural sector. He pointed out the critical need for improved irrigation infrastructures and collaborative efforts to address water management challenges.

A Technologically Enhanced Experience

Enrique Pérez expressed gratitude to all the primary sector professionals, calling FEAGA the largest gathering of its kind in the Canary Islands. This year’s fair has introduced a greater technological component, allowing key events to be streamed live via QR codes accessible through social media and the official website. Accessibility has also been enhanced, with shuttle services from parking areas and provisions for individuals with mobility impairments.

A Broader Presence and Engagement

Narvay Quintero noted the increased presence of the Canary Islands Government this year, with a more extensive exhibition space and wider-ranging activities directed at both adults and children. He mentioned the recent European Parliament approval of a funding report aimed at peripheral regions, which reflects over two years of diligent work between the Government of the Canary Islands and various stakeholders.

Honoring the Pillars of Fuerteventura’s Heritage

In a heartfelt tribute during the inaugural ceremony, Tomás Acosta Cabrera and Vicente Hernández Santana were honored for their fifty years of service as commissioners of the Mancomún of Antigua and Betancuria. Additionally, the Council of Regulators for Majorero Cheese was acknowledged on its thirtieth anniversary, underscoring the efforts to maintain high standards for cheese production and its promotion.

A Feast for the Senses

The fair boasts over 200 stands distributed between commercial, institutional, producer areas, and artisan markets, alongside food stalls and association booths. The energetic atmosphere is set to engage visitors in Fuerteventura’s agricultural bounty, highlighting a community committed to sustainability and growth.

A Shared Journey Into Fuerteventura’s Agricultural Future

As authorities joined representatives from ADISFUER for a group photo and embarked on a tour of the FEAGA 2026 institutional hall, it was evident that this year’s fair signifies not only a celebration but also a collective journey towards the advancement of Fuerteventura’s agricultural landscape, farmers, and local businesses.
