On a concerning Monday evening, a young boy suffered serious injuries after a catastrophic fall in the rocky terrain of El Cotillo, located in the municipality of La Oliva. The incident highlights not only the perils of exploring such areas but also the rapid emergency response that was mobilized to assist the injured child.
According to reports from the Policía Local de La Oliva, the incident occurred at approximately 19:50 at a site known as El Muellito.
The Fall: A Distressing Accident
The alarm was raised when a citizen noticed that a minor had fallen from a height exceeding seven meters. A local patrol was alerted while they were conducting routine security work in the area.
Upon their arrival, officers quickly assessed the situation and ascertained that the fall had occurred in a particularly treacherous region characterized by cliffs and difficult terrain. Urgent medical assistance was deemed vital.
During the initial response, several individuals sprang into action, including a doctor and a lifeguard, both off-duty at the time, along with the police officers on the scene and the Emergency Coordinator from the La Oliva Town Hall. Together, they managed to provide immediate care and stabilize the young boy until professional medical resources arrived.
A Comprehensive Emergency Response Activated
The situation required broader assistance, prompting the Police to contact 112 Canarias, the region’s emergency services. In response, an extensive emergency operation was set in motion.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Canarian Health Service equipped with a medicalized ambulance, firefighters from the municipality, and a rescue helicopter, were dispatched to the scene.
After an initial assessment at the site of the mishap, the injured boy was airlifted to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura for comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment.
