Urgent Incident in El Cotillo: Young Boy Seriously Injured in Fall

On a serene Monday evening, a tragic accident unfolded in El Cotillo, within the municipality of La Oliva, when a young boy sustained serious injuries after falling from a height of over seven meters in an area known as El Muellito. This incident, which took place around 7:50 PM, has drawn the attention of local authorities and emergency services, highlighting the dangers present in scenic but precarious locations.

The Call for Help

The situation began when a vigilant citizen spotted the young boy in distress and contacted the local police. At the time, officers from the La Oliva Local Police were on patrol, focusing on community safety within the area. Upon receiving the alert, they hurried to the site of the fall. The challenging terrain, consisting of steep cliffs, made the scene difficult to navigate, complicating the immediate care required for the injured teenager.

Quick Response from Bystanders and Officials

As police officers arrived, they quickly assessed the situation and recognized the urgency of the boy’s condition. Remarkably, a local doctor who was off duty at the time was in the vicinity and joined the first responders, alongside a municipal lifeguard who also happened to be off duty. Together with the police officers and the Emergency Coordinator from the local government, they provided essential first aid to stabilize the injured boy while awaiting the arrival of medical assistance.

Their prompt actions likely played a crucial role in managing the boy’s condition until specialized help arrived.

Emergency Services Mobilized

Following the initial response, the local police contacted 112 Canarias to activate emergency services. This call initiated a swift response that included a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Island Health Service, local firefighters, and a rescue helicopter. The coordinated approach ensured that the boy would receive the necessary medical attention as quickly as possible, even in the challenging landscape of El Muellito.

Medical Evacuation to Hospital

Once emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene, they performed a preliminary assessment of the boy’s injuries. Fortunately, the young patient did not lose consciousness at any point during the ordeal. However, despite maintaining consciousness, he was still considered to have serious injuries. After thorough evaluation and preparation for medical evacuation, he was airlifted to the Hospital General de Fuerteventura for a more comprehensive assessment and treatment.

Condition and Outlook

Upon arrival at the hospital, the boy was reported to be in stable condition, though he still faced significant injuries that required medical intervention. The swift and effective response from the local community and emergency services has been noted as a vital factor in ensuring he received prompt care.

Such incidents serve as stark reminders of the potential dangers posed by natural terrains, particularly in picturesque locations that may lure both locals and tourists alike.
