New Health Center in Fuerteventura Set to Boost Local Healthcare Services

The picturesque island of Fuerteventura is set to enhance its healthcare capabilities with the upcoming construction of the Centro de Salud Corralejo II Dunas. This new health center promises to address the growing needs of the local population and improve access to essential medical services.

Project Overview

The Dirección General de Recursos Económicos del Servicio Canario de la Salud (SCS) recently awarded a contract valued at 9.92 million euros for the construction of the new facility. This development highlights the commitment of the Canary Islands government to improve public health infrastructure, especially in areas experiencing significant population growth.

Cofinanced by the European Union through the Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) for the period 2021-2027, this project reflects an integrated approach towards enhancing community well-being.

Construction Timeline and Features

The project is set to unfold over a 23-month execution period, contingent upon the signing of the act of commencement. It is essential for this act to be completed within a month, ensuring that the project starts promptly.

Upon completion, the health center will span 3,500 square meters distributed over a single floor, a design choice aimed at facilitating accessibility for all community members.

Designed with the Community in Mind

Tomás Pérez, the director of the Area of Health in Fuerteventura, emphasized that the construction of the new center is a direct response to the increasing healthcare demands of the Zona Básica de Salud de La Oliva. It underscores the region’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services tailored to the rising population.

The facility will include various areas aimed at enhancing patient experience and care.

Key Facilities:

  • Adult Care: This area will encompass consultations for family medicine, nursing, and multifunctional clinics.
  • Pediatric Care: Dedicated services for children will include pediatric consultations, nursing, a breastfeeding area, and separate restrooms for increased comfort.
  • Emergency Services: A section for urgent care will feature a consultation room, an observation room, a treatment area, a resuscitation room, and a nebulization room, ensuring that urgent medical needs can be met swiftly.

In addition to these specialized areas, the center will also provide:

  • General and Minor Surgery: This will include a room for blood draws and diagnostic testing to streamline patient care.
  • Women’s Health Services and Physiotherapy: Recognizing the holistic aspects of health, these services will cater to the diverse needs of women.
  • Oral Health and Conventional Radiology: Essential services to promote comprehensive health management.
  • Administrative and Personnel Areas: Adequate administrative facilities will support the operational efficiency of the health center.

A Positive Step Forward for Fuerteventura

The construction of the Centro de Salud Corralejo II Dunas represents a significant leap towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality in the region. With its thoughtful design and comprehensive service offering, the new health center is set to become a cornerstone of the community, addressing both immediate and long-term health needs.

As the construction process unfolds, the anticipation among residents grows, with expectations of improved, accessible healthcare services that match their community’s needs.
