38th International Kite Festival of Corralejo: A Colorful Celebration of Nature and Community

The 38th edition of the International Kite Festival in Corralejo has just wrapped up, leaving behind a sensational legacy of vibrant skies and jubilant families. This year’s festival was not only marked by stunning visuals, with kites of all shapes and sizes gliding gracefully across the skies of the Natural Park of the Dunes of Corralejo, but also by a commitment to sustainability and environmental respect.

Ideal Weather Conditions Enhance the Experience

The festival unfolded under ideal weather conditions—gentle winds and sunny skies with spring-like temperatures, even in November. These perfect elements allowed over 200 kite enthusiasts from across Europe to showcase their skills in both static and acrobatic kite flying over nearly a week. The enchanting backdrop of the Dunes of Corralejo, located next to the shimmering sea, set the scene for a memorable event.

Activities for All Ages

In alignment with its family-friendly theme, the festival boasted a plethora of activities catering to attendees of all ages. From hands-on workshops to informative environmental tours and exciting contests, there was something for everyone. The evening program was especially engaging, featuring concerts and a breathtaking drone show in the Bay of Corralejo. With over 300 drones lighting up the night sky, the shows on both Friday and Saturday drew record crowds, filling the bay with onlookers eager to witness the spectacle.

Enthusiasm Echoes Through the Festival

Raúl Rivero, the promoter of the International Kite Festival of Corralejo, expressed his satisfaction with this year’s results. “The public has responded with enthusiasm,” he noted. “The beach was animated every day, and both the concerts and drone performances enjoyed complete attendance.” With such a diverse range of activities and a consistently busy atmosphere, Rivero highlighted the festival’s growing international reputation, stating, “Kite flyers mark our festival on their calendars. Corralejo is becoming a reference point throughout Europe, and the festival is now recognized among the most important in the world.”

The Grand Finale: A Spectacle of Skill and Strategy

As the festival reached its finale, spectators were treated to the final displays of acrobatic kites, renowned for their spectacular choreography and synchronization. The highlight of the closing event was the much-anticipated “Rokaku” kite battles. In these thrilling contests, nimble kites fought against each other in a strategic dance, each participant aiming to get their opponent’s kite grounded while keeping their own aloft. Spectators watched with bated breath, cheering for their favorites.

Following the climactic battles, the trophy presentations marked the end of what had been an unforgettable event. As flags fluttered and smiles abounded, plans for the next edition began to take shape, promising another year of colorful kites gracing the skies of Fuerteventura.

Support and Organization Behind the Festival

The 38th International Kite Festival was organized by the Tourism Department of the La Oliva Town Council, receiving support from the Tourism Division of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias, championing the brand ‘Islas Canarias, Latitud de Vida.’ Collaborators such as Binter and RIU Hotels and Resorts played essential roles in bringing this vibrant event to life, ensuring that it continues to enjoy widespread community and visitor support.

This festival is more than just a collection of colorful kites; it represents a harmonious blend of creativity, environmental consciousness, and community spirit. Each year, it enriches the cultural tapestry of Corralejo, making it a cherished event among locals and travelers alike.
