This first weekend marks a particularly special time, featuring five distinct events that pay homage to this beloved local celebration. Mayor Isaí Blanco has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community, stating, “We want to extend our thanks once again to the residents of Corralejo for their collaboration in making this year’s Fiestas del Carmen a reality. On Friday, July 12, the festivities kick off with the Festival de Folklore Dunas de Corralejo at 9 PM. This vibrant event will showcase local talent, featuring performances by groups such as A.F Dunas de Corralejo and Cono Sur Ahorén. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the first street party of the weekend will feature lively music from Nuevo Klan and Nclave, creating a festive ambiance in the venue adjacent to the José Perdomo Umpiérrez Pavilion.
The celebration continues on Saturday, July 13, starting with a Master Class in Zumba led by local instructors Triana Nevado and Kika at 11 AM. As the sun sets, the community will gather at 7 PM for the traditional maritime procession in honor of the Virgin Mary. This cherished event begins at Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen, specifically at Brisamar, and will include several folkloric groups accompanying the parade. Performers from Dunas de Corralejo, Tercera Edad Fuerteventura Norte, A.F Ahorén, and more will celebrate alongside local residents, culminating in offerings made to the revered Virgin. Sunday, July 14, promises to be a highlight for families, with the much-anticipated children’s gala taking place at 6 PM. This event has been moved to accommodate the excitement around the UEFA Euro Cup final, ensuring that everyone can enjoy this thrilling match. Little ones from the community will take center stage, donning custom outfits in a delightful fashion show. Following this, all participants will be crowned as the Princes and Princesses of Carmen, with the energetic performances from the Academy of Alice García’s BabyQueens and MinnyQueens adding sparkle to the occasion.
Sports enthusiasts are in for a treat as well, as the Sports Council, headed by Gleiber Carreño, has lined up an impressive array of activities. Traditional games will take center stage with the Second Meeting of Palo Canario, while the Beach Volleyball Tournament and Latin Sailing Regatta enhance the sporting spirit on Saturday, July 13. As the festivities progress, the finale of the VII Memorial Ancor Carballo Perdomo will take place on Friday, July 19, promising a thrilling conclusion to the competitive spirit embedded in the celebrations.
