The Ayuntamiento de La Oliva, through its Culture Department led by David Hernández, has unveiled an exciting cultural program for Semana Santa 2026. These festivities are set to offer a blend of tradition, music, and family activities, culminating in a vibrant community atmosphere in El Cotillo. The program was announced on March 30, gearing the community up for a series of events that will take place from April 2 to April 4.

Festival SOCO: A Cultural Gathering

Kicking off the holiday season is the long-awaited Festival SOCO, an annual cultural event organized alongside the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Analogic Foundation. Celebrating its 15th edition, this well-established festival will be hosted in the picturesque Plaza Vieja of El Cotillo, featuring a captivating lineup of alternative artists from the Canary Islands.

On April 2, attendees can expect performances from renowned DJs like DJ Skull and Bio, and eclectic artists such as Perdxmo and Loopn Loompa. The festival continues on April 3 with even more talent showcasing their music, including acts like Amakó, Don Virgilio, and Chocolate Sexy. Each year, SOCO has gained significant recognition, bringing together diverse musical genres and creating an unforgettable experience for both locals and visitors alike.

Family Focused Activities

Aside from its musical offerings, the Semana Santa events boast numerous family-friendly activities designed to engage and entertain attendees of all ages. The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, emphasizes the significance of family bonding during this time, stating, “Everyone knows that we celebrate Semana Santa in El Cotillo. With good music, activities, and workshops, it’s a weekend for the whole family to enjoy.”

The Culture Department is adamant about creating memorable experiences in El Cotillo. David Hernández adds that Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to the SOCO Festival, while Saturday will feature the Festival Marea Cultural. A range of engaging workshops for children is planned for the morning of April 4, creating an environment perfect for family participation.

Community Engagement and Cultural Significance

Rayco León, the Cultural Councillor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, highlights the importance of Semana Santa in fostering community spirit and cultural engagement. He notes that Analogic Foundation has been instrumental in promoting this festival for 15 years. “Semana Santa in El Cotillo symbolizes gathering and culture,” León shares, inviting everyone to join in.

Festival Marea Cultural: Activities for All Ages

The festivities will continue with the Festival Marea Cultural on April 4, catering to families through various activities. Starting at 11:00 AM, kids can relish workshops, musical performances, and games. Later in the day, a culturally immersive experience awaits with a participatory workshop on African dance and percussion at 6:00 PM. The highlight of the evening shall be a lively music session, featuring popular groups such as La Banda del Cuco and Tribu – G, bringing energy and joy to the community.
