Awards Highlight the Sector’s Accelerating Evolution
Set to take place from October 6 to 8 at Fira de Barcelona, the Alimentaria FoodTech event will host the prestigious awards. This gathering is not just a celebration; it’s a strategic platform designed to showcase advanced processing, automation, and next-generation manufacturing solutions. The awards are structured into two distinct categories, each targeting a specific segment of the industry.
Recognizing Innovation and Disruption
The FoodTech Innova Awards will spotlight exhibiting companies that are pioneering technologies or ingredients aimed at improving production, transformation, or preservation processes. On the other hand, the FoodTech Emprende Awards will focus on start-ups that are bringing disruptive ideas to the table, showcasing their strong growth potential. The call for entries remains open until July 3, with a particular emphasis on innovations that advance automation, digitalisation, or sustainability.
Spain’s Agrifoodtech Ecosystem Strengthens the Backdrop
The launch of these awards comes at a time when Spain is witnessing a remarkable expansion in its agrifoodtech landscape. According to data from ICEX and Eatable Adventures, the country is home to approximately 420 active agrifoodtech start-ups. These companies span the entire value chain, from primary production to processing and consumption, creating a vibrant ecosystem ripe for innovation.
Ricardo Márquez, the director of Alimentaria FoodTech, emphasizes the momentum within Spain’s food industry. He notes that the country boasts “a powerful food industry, a solid technological capacity, and an extensive innovation network.” With over 30,000 potential driving companies, more than 50 universities, and 20 specialized technology centers, Spain is well-positioned to lead in food technology advancements.
