El Cabildo de Fuerteventura Launches ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ Project
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has unveiled an exciting initiative titled ‘Telecentros Gamificación,’ aimed at transforming the island’s telecenters and youth spaces into vibrant hubs for digital leisure, creativity, and learning through video games. Spearheaded by the Ministry of New Technologies under the leadership of Carmen Alonso, this project sets the stage for a gaming revolution on the island, making it a key player in the digital culture evolution.
A Hub for Digital Entertainment and Learning
At the heart of the ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ initiative is the desire to create an engaging environment where young people can explore the realm of video games. The program encompasses an array of activities including esports leagues, video game creation workshops, virtual reality experiences, competitive board games, and innovative digital role-playing and escape room propositions.
One of the standout features of this initiative is the Liga Gaming Inter-Telecentros. Participants will engage in popular games like Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Fortnite, competing for a global ranking. The league includes a weekly challenge system designed to accumulate points from various municipalities, leading to a thrilling final event. This competitive structure not only adds to the excitement but also fosters a sense of community among participants across different parts of the island.
Diverse Gaming Experiences
The diversity of activities included in this initiative ensures that there is something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned gamer or a newbie. There will be tournaments and learning sessions focused on card games like Lorcana and Pokémon TCG, along with draft events that aim to level the playing field for participants. An intriguing “Gym Leader” mode will see each telecenter operate as a gym that players must conquer to earn badges, making the experience both challenging and rewarding.
In addition to these competitions, the project incorporates retro gaming days featuring classic consoles, speedrun challenges, and workshops for creating mini-games using platforms such as Scratch, Godot, and Roblox Studio. There will be opportunities for content creation and streaming, offering participants a chance to explore their passions while gaining valuable skills in a modern and accessible way.
Upcoming ‘Día Gaming’ Events
To kick off the project, the Cabildo has organized several Día Gaming events targeted at youth, families, and video game enthusiasts. These gatherings will feature competitions in popular titles like Clash Royale, Fortnite, and Mario Kart, alongside hands-on workshops in 3D printing, Pokémon TCG, and Roblox Studio.
The first scheduled events will take place in different locations across the island:
- Centro Cultural de Lajares on February 27, from 16:00 to 20:00
- Centro Cultural de El Matorral on February 28, from 11:00 to 18:00
- Casa de la Juventud in Morro Jable on March 7, from 11:00 to 18:00
Attendees can expect designated areas for tournaments, introductory workshops, retro gaming spaces, and interactive activities such as “El Tablero del Jugón,” a live trivia game with gaming-related challenges.
Mission and Vision
Carmen Alonso emphasizes that this project is rooted in the desire to bring gaming culture to every corner of the island. She expresses the vision of making telecenters modern, dynamic spaces where the creativity of young people can flourish. Alonso’s message is clear: every child or young person in Fuerteventura, regardless of their village, should have the opportunity to compete, learn programming, or simply share their love for video games in a safe and supportive environment.
Alonso encourages the community to participate in the upcoming ‘Día Gaming’ events: “We urge all families, young people, and gaming enthusiasts to join us in Lajares, Morro Jable, and El Matorral. It’s a perfect occasion to discover new activities, team up with other players, and showcase that Fuerteventura has a thriving digital talent.”
Future Prospects and Collaborations
Looking ahead, Alonso mentions that the calendar for the Liga Gaming Inter-Telecentros and other activities will expand over the coming months, culminating in a grand island-wide final that will honor the effort and participation from all telecenters involved. This growth reflects a commitment to nurturing the digital culture within the community.
The Ministry of New Technologies expresses its gratitude to the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, and La Oliva for their essential cooperation and support in launching these events. Their involvement is crucial in making this initiative accessible to the youth of Fuerteventura, affirming the collective effort toward enriching the island’s cultural fabric with digital creativity and gaming.
