Fuerteventura Shines at Madrid’s FITUR 2025: A Fresh Approach to Tourism

Fuerteventura has once again taken center stage at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, showcasing a fresh and innovative tourism strategy that invites visitors to engage with the island responsibly. With its rich offerings and natural beauty, the island’s charm is palpable, and the Fuerteventura Tourism Board has been diligently promoting its diverse attractions under the unified banner of Fuerteventura.

A Strong Presence at FITUR

The event was inaugurated by Lola García, the President of the Cabildo, alongside her colleague Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Counselor. Their participation highlighted a gathering of local authorities and industry professionals dedicated to promoting Fuerteventura. High spirits filled the atmosphere as past achievements were celebrated, especially the outstanding results from the previous year, culminating in optimistic forecasts for 2025.

In her opening remarks, Lola García emphasized that “Fuerteventura aims for quality tourism rather than quantity.” This statement reflects a commitment to enhancing the tourism experience while maintaining respect for the island’s culture and environment. The goal is to ensure that the economic benefits, projected to reach nearly €3 billion in 2024, are distributed equitably among the island’s residents.

Emphasizing Sustainability and Quality

Marlene Figueroa underscored the island’s dedication to sustainability and quality. The new promotional strategies feature a revitalized image of Fuerteventura, highlighting its breathtaking natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and various outdoor sporting opportunities. A collaborative effort from all municipalities seeks to position Fuerteventura as a competitive destination for eco-conscious travelers, reaffirming its stance on sustainability and connectivity.

Engaging with Industry Professionals

Throughout the day, tourism board officials engaged in a series of meetings with executives from leading tour operators, hotel groups, and airlines that collaborate with the island’s tourism sector. Over three days, 27 business meetings are scheduled, drawing attention to key partnerships forged with significant entities such as Grupo Meliá, Alpitour-Jumbotours, and Viajes El Corte Inglés. These alliances aim to enhance Fuerteventura’s market positioning, especially for the upcoming summer and winter seasons.

In the Fitur TechY business zone, the Asofuer association showcased the Big Data Tourist Fuerteventura Destination project. Funded by European Next Generation funds through the “Fuerte por Naturaleza” initiative, this initiative aims to develop a platform for managing large volumes of tourism-related data to analyze trends and forecasts, benefiting local businesses and stakeholders alike.

Celebrating Success in Sustainable Tourism

An event highlight was the 11th edition of the ReThink Tourism Awards, attended by García, Figueroa, and the Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge. The Igramar Morro Jable establishment received recognition for its exceptional sustainability and rehabilitation efforts in the hospitality sector, serving as a benchmark for the type of tourism model Fuerteventura promotes.
