The Tireless Pursuit of Victory: José Manuel González’s Journey in the CCM

A Thrilling Weekend in Fuerteventura

Amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Canary Islands, José Manuel González, a celebrated champion from La Gomera, showcased his steadfast determination at the recent 12th Subida a Betancuria. This exhilarating event, part of the Campeonato de Canarias de Montaña (CCM), saw González not only competing fiercely but also inching closer to championship glory. With a total haul of thirty points from this event, he remains firmly in contention for the title.

The Challenge of the Rampa Majorera

The rampa majorera stands as one of the most revered and challenging circuits in the archipelago. This remarkable track offers a thrilling blend of high-speed stretches and intricate turns that test the nerves and skills of even the most seasoned drivers. González, known for his meticulous preparation, arrived in Fuerteventura behind the wheel of his powerful Porsche 991.1 GT3, keen to conquer these demanding levels.

Setting the Pace with Precision

The day began with excitement as González set the benchmark time during the practice sessions—a strong indicator of his potential for the event. Despite this promising start, his feelings behind the wheel did not align with the confidence projected by his lap time. “I didn’t feel comfortable in the car; it was floating too much,” he remarked later, expressing his frustration even while acknowledging the fast performance.

Racing to the Top

As the competition unfolded, González retained his focus and strategy. His efforts paid off in the first race of the day as he clinched another top time, marking a highlight in his robust performance. With his eyes set on continuous improvement, he pushed even harder in the second race, refining his best time from 3:25.046 to an impressive 3:24.537. Unfortunately, even with this advancement, the competition remained fierce, and he finished as runner-up, falling short by just 2.126 seconds.

The Championship Race

As the season progresses, González finds himself in a strategic position in the CCM standings. After participating in five out of the seven scheduled events, he currently occupies the second spot in the rankings with a commendable 142 points. Notably, he trails the leader by just twelve points, setting the stage for an electrifying chase toward the title in the upcoming rounds.

Looking Ahead: The Next Challenge

The future holds promise as González prepares for the next event, the Subida Los Loros, set to take place over the weekend of September 5-6. This race is not only crucial for the CCM but is also part of the Campeonato de España de Montaña, shedding a spotlight on his efforts on a national level.

A Grateful Champion

Despite the challenges faced during the recent race, González remains resolute and optimistic. “We really wanted to perform well this weekend, but I didn’t feel comfortable. We have to accept the situation and commend Ángel Bello for his race,” he said, displaying both humility and respect for his competitors. His gratitude extends to his team, sponsors, and family, acknowledging their vital role in supporting his racing endeavors.

A Supportive Network

The unwavering support for José Manuel González comes from various organizations, including the Cabildo Insular de La Gomera and La Gomera Reserva de la Biosfera, along with local sponsors like KoniCanarias and SPAR La Gomera. This network is essential to facilitating his racing career, enabling him to participate in such rigorous competitions and continue pushing the boundaries of his performance.

Through a combination of perseverance, strategic planning, and unwavering support, José Manuel González continues to embody the spirit of competition in the Championship of the Canary Islands. His journey is not just about racing; it’s a testament to determination, teamwork, and passion for the sport.
