Expanding Sustainable Infrastructure in Fuerteventura
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Department of Industry, continues to make strides in promoting sustainable mobility by launching two new rapid electric vehicle charging points. These state-of-the-art chargers, boasting a power output of 50 kW, are strategically located in the heart of Pájara, underscoring the island’s commitment to modernizing its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.
Integrating into the Public Charging Network
The newly installed chargers in Pájara will become a vital part of the public charging network managed by the Cabildo. This initiative is essential for ensuring that electric vehicle users have quick and efficient access to charging facilities throughout the island. As it stands, Fuerteventura’s sustainable mobility landscape now includes 18 operational charging points distributed between the north-central and southern regions of the island.
Overview of Charging Facilities
The current network consists of:
-
7 Rapid Charging Points (50 kW): Located in popular areas such as Corralejo, Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Betancuria, Morro Jable, La Lajita, and Pájara, these charging points cater to drivers seeking quick recharges on the go.
-
2 Additional Charging Points (10 kW): Found in the tourist-friendly locations of Caleta de Fuste and Costa Calma, these chargers provide a slower, yet still effective option for EV owners.
-
9 Charging Points (22 kW): The network is further supported by various charging stations in Corralejo, Lajares, La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, and Betancuria.
Commitment to Energy Transition
Lola García, the President of the Cabildo, emphasizes the importance of advancing the electric vehicle charging network. “It’s essential for this institution to engage with the energy transition. The new additions not only modernize the existing network but also contribute significantly to a cleaner, more efficient mode of transportation,” she notes.
Investment in Sustainable Mobility
Lolina Negrín, the councilor for the Industry sector, sheds light on the considerable investment made by the Cabildo in this crucial area. “Our goal is to establish a modern and accessible network throughout Fuerteventura, promoting electric vehicles as a viable alternative to fossil fuel use,” she explains. This vision aligns with broader global trends aiming for reduced carbon footprints and increased reliance on renewable energy sources.
Future Expansion Plans
Looking forward, the Cabildo is committed to further expanding the charging infrastructure. Plans are already in place for two more 50 kW chargers in the municipalities of Antigua and Tuineje, as well as five additional 22 kW chargers located in Gran Tarajal, Antigua, and Puerto del Rosario. This continued investment reflects the Cabildo’s dedication to ensuring that residents and visitors have robust options for sustainable transportation.
Enhancing Mobility Across the Island
The introduction of these charging points serves as a vital step toward revolutionizing transportation in Fuerteventura. Not only do they make electric vehicles more practical for everyday use, but they also align with the island’s commitment to a sustainable future. By fostering an environment conducive to electric mobility, the Cabildo aims to become a leader in energy transition and sustainable practices, shaping a greener tomorrow for Fuerteventura.
