La Concha Beach, Almost Ready for the Return of FEM

The Fuerteventura en Música Festival: A Celebration of Music and Community

Set against the stunning backdrop of El Cotillo, the Fuerteventura en Música Festival (FEM) is back, bringing the sound of music to life once again. Mark your calendars for July 1st and 2nd, as the beach of La Concha will pulse with rhythms starting at 8:00 PM on both evenings. This year, presenters Alejandro Frey from the group Abora and Rebeca Tabares will guide attendees through an exciting lineup, ensuring that every moment is memorable.

Inclusivity at the Heart of FEM

A standout feature this year is the festival’s commitment to inclusivity. A dedicated platform will be available for people with mobility challenges, alongside sensory backpacks designed for attendees with hearing disabilities. This initiative ensures that everyone can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, making FEM not just an event, but a community celebration that truly welcomes all.

A Rich Tradition

Celebrating its 16th edition, FEM has become a cherished annual tradition, renowned for featuring a diverse range of artists while promoting environmental awareness. Rayco León, the island’s cultural counselor, highlighted the festival’s role in invigorating the local community. “We’re fortunate to bring back one of the summer’s significant events,” he noted. Sergio Lloret, the president of the Cabildo, echoed this enthusiasm, inviting both locals and tourists to enjoy not only the music but also the breathtaking natural surroundings.

Headlining Acts: A Night of Diverse Music

The festival promises an eclectic mix of artists on its two nights.

  • Friday, July 1st will feature high-energy performances from the likes of Asian Dub Foundation (UK), Molotov Jukebox (UK), La Chiva Gantiva (Belgium), and local favorites Sistah Vibes and J.E.R.I & DJ CHK.

  • Saturday, July 2nd offers an exciting lineup with Puerto Candelaria (Colombia), Skatalites (Jamaica), The Grooves (Madrid), Serial Killerz (Barcelona), and the local performer Aceysele, who recently participated in the festival preparation alongside local authorities.

Daytime Delights: Activities for All

FEM is not only about night concerts; it also features a rich array of daytime activities that enhance the festival experience. From July 1st to 3rd, the festival will organize a variety of fun and engaging events in collaboration with the cultural association Cotillo Joven.

  • Kickstarting the festivities on Friday is a jazz parade led by the The Plunger Dixie Band, a local band that brings the lively sounds of New Orleans jazz marching through the streets to the beach concert site.

  • On Saturday, concerts will also take place at Muellito de El Cotillo, featuring Mestura Jazz Band, Hey Chabón, and The ADD throughout the day, showcasing their unique styles from smooth jazz to lively percussion ensembles that get crowds moving.

Engage and Move: Dance Workshops

Dance enthusiasts will also have plenty to enjoy, with workshops available on Saturday that include body percussion and African dance sessions. These workshops not only celebrate rhythm and movement but also invite participation from festival goers of all skill levels.

Environmental Awareness

In line with its commitment to sustainability, FEM will host environmental workshops on both Saturday and Sunday. Organized by the Observatory of Marine Litter, these sessions aim to educate festival attendees about conservation efforts and the importance of protecting Fuerteventura’s pristine environment.

Getting There: Special Transportation Arrangements

To ensure that everyone can join the festivities without hassle, special bus services will be in operation during the festival. The regular bus services are supplemented with additional routes—including night buses—making it easy for attendees to travel safely to and from El Cotillo.

With an estimated attendance of around 6,000 people, these arrangements contribute to a seamless celebration and enhance the overall experience for locals and visitors alike.

This year’s Fuerteventura en Música Festival is set to be more than just a series of concerts; it’s a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and community connection nestled in one of the most beautiful coastal areas of Spain.
