Over 200 Students from CEIP Puerto del Rosario Learn Through Exhibitions at the Cultural Center

A Day of Discovery at La Casa de la Cultura

On a bright Wednesday morning, La Casa de la Cultura in Puerto del Rosario became a vibrant hub of knowledge for over 200 enthusiastic students from the CEIP Puerto del Rosario. These spirited young learners, aged between 9 and 11, were about to embark on an enriching adventure that would not only spark their curiosity but also deepen their appreciation for culture and science.

A Warm Welcome

Upon arriving at this key cultural venue, the students were greeted by the Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, and the Councilor of Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo. Their warm welcome set the tone for a day filled with exploration and learning. The mayor and councilor emphasized the importance of cultural education, encouraging students to absorb as much as they could from the various exhibits and activities designed for them.

An Immersive Cultural Tour

The adventure began with an engaging tour through the various exhibitions currently on display. One highlight was the enchanting Christmas Nativity Scene, created by students from the CPEIPS Sagrado Corazón de Fuerteventura. This stunning portrayal of traditional themes offered students a glimpse into the artistic talent of their peers while also fostering a sense of community.

Additionally, the students explored creative works showcased in the exhibition titled ‘Capacidades’. This initiative featured artwork created by participants of art therapy workshops conducted by Itrazos and Adivia. Here, students not only appreciated artistic expressions but were also encouraged to engage their senses in new ways, tapping into often underutilized parts of their brains.

An Astronomical Adventure

Coincidentally, their visit coincided with the second winter solstice on December 21, a day known to astronomers for being the shortest day of the year. To celebrate, the students were granted exclusive access to the exhibition ‘Los Cielos de Fuerteventura.’ Members from the Agrupación Astronómica de Fuerteventura, including knowledgeable educators Carmelo Cabrera and Juan Padrón, guided workshops that enriched students’ understanding of cardinal directions and celestial navigation.

Participants learned how to orient themselves without technological aid, using the North Star as a guiding point—a skill that has been essential to explorers and travelers throughout history. They also delved into the phenomenon of solar positioning during equinoxes, a bit of knowledge that combines history, science, and practical life skills.

Stunning Visuals of the Night Sky

The interactive exhibition ‘Los Cielos de Fuerteventura’ is not just educational—it’s also visually stunning. It features breathtaking photographs of the night sky, showcasing galaxies, nebulae, and other celestial bodies as seen from various locations around the island of Fuerteventura. These images, captured by members of the astronomical group, illustrate the unparalleled beauty of the island’s night sky.

Moreover, the exhibition includes a documentary exploring the history of the universe, giving students a cosmic perspective and igniting their imaginations. The event serves as a perfect gateway for budding astronomers, encouraging them to ponder the mysteries of the cosmos.

Commitment to Cultural Cultivation

Both Mayor Juan Jiménez and Councilor Juan Manuel Verdugo reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to promoting culture within the municipality. They highlighted that La Casa de la Cultura is always open for residents and tourists alike, serving as a key resource for community engagement and education. They encouraged everyone to visit, discover, and learn more about various aspects of life and society through the dynamic exhibitions hosted at the venue.
