The recent results from the University Entrance Exam (PAU) in the Canary Islands have sparked excitement across the archipelago. With over 8,200 students successfully passing the exams, the success rates in both provinces have exceeded an impressive 89%. This achievement highlights the dedication and hard work of students and educators alike.
ULPGC and ULL Exam Results
In the province of Las Palmas, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) reported a remarkable pass rate of 91.6% in the general phase of the PAU. Out of 4,590 students who took the exams, 4,203 achieved passing grades. Notably, female candidates excelled with a pass rate of 91.7%, while male candidates followed closely at 91.3%.
Conversely, the University of La Laguna (ULL) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife also showcased strong results, with an overall pass rate of 89.17%. Out of 4,583 registered students, 4,060 passed, while 493 did not meet the requirements, and 30 students were absent on exam day.
Science and Technology Lead the Results
When examining the results by academic stream, the Science and Technology disciplines stood out with the highest pass rates. At ULPGC, an impressive 95.3% of the 2,362 students in this stream passed their exams. ULL mirrored this success with a commendable pass rate of 92.49% in the same category.
The Arts stream, particularly in Music and Performing Arts, also shone brightly, achieving a pass rate of 95.4% in Las Palmas and an even higher 96.05% in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In contrast, the Humanities and Social Sciences fields recorded pass rates of 87.6% at ULPGC and 85.42% at ULL. Visual Arts, Image, and Design students saw success rates of 87.7% and 85.98%, respectively.
Variances by Location
Delving deeper into the results, ULPGC’s southern Gran Canaria campus boasted the highest pass rate at 93.1%. Other notable locations included Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 92.4% and Lanzarote at 91.9%. The northern Gran Canaria campus achieved a pass rate of 91.8%, while southern Fuerteventura reached 90.2%. Northern Fuerteventura and Telde recorded pass rates of 89.8% and 87.7%, respectively.
In Tenerife, the majority of candidates were concentrated in the capital, with 3,663 students and a pass rate of 89.3%. El Hierro emerged as a standout location, with an impressive 94.8% of students passing. La Palma and La Gomera followed with pass rates of 87.02% and 86.6%, respectively.
Publication of Results and Upcoming Deadlines
Students can now access their results through the respective university portals. At ULPGC, grades are available online and will also be communicated via email. Students wishing to contest their results can submit review requests between June 15th and 17th, with final results set to be published on June 19th.
At ULL, the pre-enrolment process for undergraduate programs for the 2026/27 academic year is currently open, running until July 2nd. For those who did not pass the ordinary session, an extraordinary session is scheduled for June 30th, July 1st, and 2nd, providing another opportunity to succeed.
Acknowledging Academic Excellence
In recognition of outstanding academic performance, both universities have planned events to honor top students. ULPGC recently hosted a ceremony for the 16 highest achievers from its campuses in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, with a notable representation of 11 female and 5 male students, most of whom attended public institutions.
Similarly, ULL is set to hold an institutional event on June 15th to celebrate the 30 students who achieved the highest grades for university access in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, further emphasizing the importance of academic excellence in the region.
