Scheduled to take place at the stunning La Barca de Sotavento beach from July 19 to August 3, this event is recognized internationally and draws participants from all corners of the globe.

An Event to Remember

At a special press conference set for Thursday, July 11, at 12:00 PM, the official program for this year’s championship will be unveiled at the Hotel INNSiDE by Meliá Fuerteventura. This will be a pivotal moment as it marks the beginning of an exciting period filled with thrilling competitions and beachside fun.

A Boost for Tourism

Annika Ingwersen, Director of Marketing for René Egli By Meliá, which is organizing the event, expressed her excitement: “It’s a pleasure to present this year’s program thanks to the unwavering support from various institutions. Our primary goal is to maximize media impact through content showcasing sports, sun, and tourism in Fuerteventura.” Last year, the championship managed to reach over 190 million people, and with the introduction of new disciplines like wingfoil and freestyle surfing, this year promises to be even bigger.

Unique Night and Day Experience

Mayor Alejandro Jorge emphasized the uniqueness of the championship, likening it to no other event in Spain that combines both daytime and nighttime activities. His focus on the commitment to safety and sporting integrity further reassures participants and visitors alike of a well-structured event.

Community Support and Collaboration

Lola García, the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, lauded the efforts of the organizing team. She highlighted how this event places the island at the epicenter of windsurfing and wingfoiling, showcasing the hard work from Pájara’s administration to make this event happen.

Tourism Councillor Tina Da Silva noted the championship’s dual role as a sports competition and a promotional platform for the area. It’s an incredible opportunity for Pájara to display its beautiful beaches and attract tourists, which in turn benefits local hotels and accommodations.

Collaboration as Key to Success

Marlene Figueroa, the island’s Tourism Advisor, emphasized the essential collaboration between institutions and private enterprises. Such cooperation is vital for the success of events like these. With the right synergy, Fuerteventura’s picturesque landscapes are poised to go viral, captivating visitors worldwide.

Promotion at The Venue

To enhance the island’s visibility as a tourist destination, a promotional stand from the Patronato de Turismo will be set up at La Carpa, where the event will take place. Fuerteventura prides itself on being the “world capital of Windsurf and Wingfoil.” Visitors will surely leave with unforgettable experiences of sun, sea, and sports.

Elite Athletes on the Scene

José Benito Alonso, the Councillor for Sports, echoed the excitement, pointing out that elite athletes from around the globe would be descending upon Fuerteventura, making it an irresistible attraction for both sports fans and tourists.

Safety and Entertainment

This year, with an eye toward ensuring a safe environment, a “violet point” for safety coordination will be established, aiming to maintain a lively yet secure atmosphere throughout the event. Last year’s successful strategy in crowd control will be adopted again, with a well-prepared team on the ground.

A Festival of Music and Fun

Adding to the excitement is the ‘La Carpa de Fuerteventura’ festival, which will host an array of musical performances, including popular artists like Beelé on July 23, Nicki Nicole on July 30, and Mestiza on August 1. With a capacity of 5,000 people, this festival promises nights of electrifying entertainment alongside the championship.

Economic Impacts

The World Championship of Windsurf and Wingfoil presents a unique opportunity to elevate Pájara’s status on the international sports stage. Beyond the thrill of competition, it serves as a significant economic driver for local businesses, benefiting everything from hotels to restaurants and various tourist services, thus fortifying the economic health of the municipality.

The event is set to shine a spotlight on Pájara, enhancing its reputation as a premier destination for water sports while providing ample opportunities for visitors and locals alike to bask in the sun and sea.
