At the press conference announcing this year’s lineup, figures like Lola García, the president of the Cabildo, and Isaí Blanco, the mayor of La Oliva, emphasized the importance of fostering a sustainable relationship with the environment.
García noted that FEM has evolved over the past two decades into an event that raises awareness about ecological issues while celebrating cultural diversity. “This year, we aim to enhance collaboration between the Cabildo and the local municipality to initiate clean-up actions, ensuring that the enjoyment of the space coexists harmoniously with the surrounding ecosystem,” she stated.
Cultural Significance: A Musical Crossroads
Isaí Blanco lauded FEM’s role in putting Cotillo on the map as a musical hotspot in the Canary Islands. “This festival not only revitalizes the town but also brings visitors who appreciate the natural beauty and lifestyle here in Fuerteventura,” he remarked.
Rayco León, the cultural advisor, highlighted that this year’s goal is to maintain the festival’s ethos of showcasing various musical styles while integrating local talent. “With prominent headliners like SFDK and the flamenco fusion of La Plazuela, we ensure that both international and local sounds resonate in this unique setting.”
