Embracing Technological Breakfasts: Insights from Fuerteventura

Introduction to Technological Breakfasts

In a forward-thinking initiative, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has organized “Los Desayunos Tecnológicos” (Technological Breakfasts), a series of sessions aimed at enlightening entrepreneurs, particularly autónomos (self-employed) and small to medium enterprises (SMEs), about critical regulatory updates set to take effect in 2026. These regulations majorly impact areas like electronic invoicing via Verifactu and effective timekeeping systems for work hours.

The Participants and Their Roles

The latest session featured key players in the realm of technology and entrepreneurship. Notable attendees included the Asociación de Autónomos de Canarias (Canary Islands Association of Self-employed Workers), CopiCanarias Soluciones Tecnológicas, and Platita Software. Each organization brought invaluable insights and shared digital tools designed to assist businesses in aligning with these impending legal requirements.

The Vision Behind the Breakfasts

Carmen Alonso, the consejera of New Technologies at the Cabildo, articulated the vision for these breakfasts. According to her, the aim is straightforward: help the business community grasp the forthcoming regulatory changes while showcasing practical technological solutions. Alonso noted, “This breakfast is precisely aimed at explaining what changes are coming, how they affect operations, and, most importantly, what technological solutions are already available to comply efficiently without imposing an additional burden on businesses.”

Digitalization as an Opportunity

Alonso also emphasized that embracing digital transformation is not merely about modernization; it represents an opportunity to enhance business management. “Digitalization is a tool for simplifying processes, saving time, and improving operational efficiency. We want technology to be an ally, not a hurdle,” she asserted, reinforcing the idea that adapting to these changes is beneficial for growth.

Highlighting the Importance of Innovation

Javier Franco, the director of the Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información (Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Society), spoke passionately about the necessity of bringing innovative practices to smaller enterprises. He described these gatherings as a vital platform for demonstrating the value of knowledge-based technology to local SMEs and microenterprises, which constitute a staggering 84% of the business ecosystem in the Canary Islands.

Practical Implications for Entrepreneurs

During the session, Elliot Martín, the manager of the Asociación de Autónomos de Canarias, took the opportunity to elaborate on the practical implications of the new regulations. He addressed common queries regarding compliance and presented various digital tools that can facilitate adherence to the new requirements. His insights were instrumental in delineating a clear pathway for the audience.

Digital Solutions to Meet Legal Requirements

In addition to Martín’s insights, CopiCanarias Soluciones Tecnológicas showcased a variety of technological solutions tailored to meet the new legal mandates. Meanwhile, Platita Software highlighted a successful case from the island, demonstrating their Glop: Software TPV para Negocios system. This platform serves as a prime example of how digital solutions can effectively modernize business management processes.

Engagement and Networking Opportunities

The atmosphere was not only educational but also collegial, featuring the presence of students from CIFP Majada Marcial in Puerto del Rosario and CIFP El Ciervo in Morro Jable. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a networking coffee break, fostering an environment for entrepreneurs and professionals to exchange experiences and forge valuable connections.

By facilitating these discussions, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura is paving the way for a more technologically adept business community, ensuring that local enterprises are well-prepared for the upcoming changes while harnessing the power of digital innovation.
