44Cup 2025 Comes to a Thrilling Close in Marina Jandía

The 44Cup recently concluded its 2025 season in vibrant Marina Jandía, a burgeoning marina developed by Calero Marinas located in Morro Jable, within the municipality of Pájara in southern Fuerteventura. This season finale delivered a thrilling conclusion, with the Swedish team GeMera being crowned the event’s champion. Notably, Team Nika emerged as the overall winner in the circuit standings, showcasing their consistent performance throughout the championship.

A Sweet and Sour Experience for the Host Team

For the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team, the event was a bittersweet affair. Under the leadership of Daniel Calero, the team finished ninth at Marina Jandía and wrapped up the season in tenth position overall. Despite the challenges, the team is optimistic as they look forward to the next season. With the 2026 campaign set to kick off at Puerto Calero from February 4 to 8, they are eager to start strong and elevate their standings.

Exceptional Conditions at Marina Jandía

The inaugural 44Cup Marina Jandía was characterized by splendid conditions: solid winds, challenging waves, and a race course that impressed the international fleet. All twelve scheduled races were completed smoothly, providing spectators with top-tier nautical spectacles. At the end of the tournament, crews expressed enthusiasm about the venue, noting Fuerteventura’s potential to become a permanent stop on the circuit.

Setbacks for the Local Team

While the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team demonstrated flashes of brilliance, particularly in speed and decision-making, they faced their share of setbacks. Accumulated penalties, alongside a significant steering system failure on Saturday that prevented them from competing in two races, greatly affected their final results. On the last day, their finishes of 7-9-7 were insufficient to improve their overall standings.

In reflecting on the intense competition, Daniel Calero stated, “The level of the 44Cup is incredibly high. This year we completed the season with our own boat, which is essential for our growth. However, many of the other teams have been together for years, and that experience shows. We need two or three seasons to solidify our place at the top, and that’s our goal.”

GeMera Shines as the Grand Winner

Swedish yacht GeMera, helmed by seasoned Italian sailor Francesco Bruni, capped the regatta with three consecutive victories in the final races. This remarkable finish secured them the top spot on the podium, narrowly edging out the Monegasque Team Nika, who took second place, and fellow Swedes Artemis Racing, who finished third.

A Testament to the Canarian Project

The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team benefits from the support of various sponsors, including Lanzarote Tourism, the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Calero Marinas, and Calmar. Additional backing comes from international supporters such as EquipYacht, Alegra Travels, Harken, Gottifredi Maffioli, North Sails, and Magic Marine, complemented by global sponsors Lanzarote Investment and John D. Wood & Co.

With the notable success of both the sports competition and organizational aspects at Marina Jandía, the 44Cup has concluded a memorable edition, positioning Fuerteventura as a new hub for high-caliber sailing.

The excitement continues as the 2026 season of the 44Cup is set to launch in the first week of February, taking place from the 4th to the 8th in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote.
