Operation ‘Anzuelo’: A Significant Drug Bust in Corralejo
The village of Corralejo, known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant tourist activity, recently became the focus of an extensive law enforcement operation aimed at tackling drug trafficking. The operation, named ‘Anzuelo’, orchestrated by the La Guardia Civil, involved over 30 agents and resulted in the dismantling of a significant drug distribution and consumption point.
Uncovering the Drug Scene
Investigations into the drug-related activities in Corralejo began in September 2025. Authorities noticed a rising alarm among residents regarding a potential hotspot for drug sales in the residential complex located on Calle Anzuelo. The concerns prompted the Corralejo Main Post, in collaboration with the 4th Company of Puerto del Rosario, to initiate a series of observation and surveillance operations in the area.
As the investigation progressed, agents noted a suspiciously high turnover of individuals frequenting the location. Many of these individuals had known ties to petty criminal activities and were recognized for their habitual drug consumption. This observation provided the groundwork for further investigation.
Inside the House of Illicit Activities
Through continued surveillance, investigators confirmed that drug exchanges were indeed occurring within the targeted residence. Cocaine base was the primary substance being traded, which was then mixed with other chemicals to produce crack. Even more alarming was the discovery that some individuals were trading stolen items from local shops in exchange for drugs, indicating that the location served a dual purpose: a point of sale and a receptacle for ill-gotten goods.
The investigators learned that drugs were both prepared and consumed in the house, providing a layer of protection to the seller while complicating law enforcement’s efforts on the streets. For the users, the private setting created a false sense of security, allowing them to consume drugs right where they purchased them.
Breaking Point: The Raid
With enough evidence to substantiate their claims, the judicial authorities authorized a search warrant on January 22, 2026. The raid took place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM and unearthed a trove of illicit materials. Agents found remnants of crack preparation, tools for drug manipulation, and a variety of drugs ready for sale.
Among the items seized were digital scales, plastic wrap used for packaging, along with quantities of hashish and crack. This formidable cache of evidence confirmed the agents’ suspicions regarding the house’s role as a drug distribution hub.
Recovery of Stolen Goods
Not only did the operation yield illegal drugs, but it also recovered numerous items believed to have been obtained through unlawful means. These included over thirty perfumes, luxury watches, mobile phones, tablets, clothing, and jewelry—many still adorned with price tags and anti-theft alarms. Such findings reinforced the suspicions of the agents regarding the nexus between drug trafficking and theft in the community.
Additionally, officers found a simulated firearm on the premises, which had likely been utilized as a tool for intimidation against buyers, further illustrating the dangerous environment surrounding the operation’s focal point.
The Arrest and Aftermath
As a result of the operation, the primary suspect, responsible for the drug sales, was apprehended and subsequently presented to the judiciary at the Puerto del Rosario court. After processing, she was released with charges pending, indicating that the investigative process was far from over.
The successful execution of operation ‘Anzuelo’ involved the concerted efforts of over thirty-five members of the Guardia Civil, including personnel from various divisions. The involvement of specialized units, including search and rescue (K9) teams, underscored the comprehensive approach taken by law enforcement to combat drug-related crime.
Commitment to Public Safety
In a press release, the Guardia Civil highlighted that operation ‘Anzuelo’ reflects their ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety and combating drug trafficking, particularly in residential areas where such illegal activities can seriously disrupt community peace. This operation serves as a reminder of the vigilance required to maintain safety in society and the resources law enforcement is willing to invest to safeguard its residents.
