Every year, the streets come alive with art during the Cotilleando Festival, taking place this year on October 10th and 11th. Celebrating its 10th edition, this well-established artistic gathering transforms the picturesque town of El Cotillo into a vibrant open-air stage, showcasing a diverse array of captivating performances such as magic, acrobatics, dance, contemporary circus acts, and juggling. The ultimate aim of the La Oliva City Council, led by Culture Councilor David Hernández, is to bring culture to the streets, invigorate the cultural space, and foster community spirit.
This year, attendees can expect a thrilling lineup of performers exploring the historic center of the coastal town, including the likes of Manu Mago Show, La Langosta – Circo Contemporáneo, Otro Aire – Danza Contemporánea, and Lullaby (Kabuari) – Circo Espectáculo. Other featured attractions will include Akabaret – a hand-to-hand juggling act, X Latidos led by Tadeo Campanotto, and Clown Circus – Thermo Parole. This eclectic mix promises not only a series of breathtaking performances but also intriguing exhibitions and various surprises. Under the artistic direction of Stefania Faga, the festival aims to delight audiences of all ages.
La Oliva’s mayor, Isaí Blanco, underscores the significance of the festival, expressing a commitment to continually bridge the gap between art and the streets: “We can’t imagine an October without the Cotilleando Festival. Its 10th edition is a testament to that, as both residents and visitors will once again experience this unique gathering that pushes art out of conventional settings and into the everyday lives of families and individuals.” The festival not only entertains but educates, as it broadens the cultural horizons of attendees, encouraging them to explore various artistic disciplines in unexpected ways.
Culture Councilor David Hernández emphasizes the festival’s unique character: “Cotilleando continues to capture the hearts of all who come to El Cotillo year after year. Here, the experience of art is reversed. Audiences do not simply visit theaters or galleries; instead, these artistic disciplines venture directly to them. We invite the locals and visitors alike to come enjoy time with family and friends and experience this exciting interaction with magic, dance, painting, circus, and other performances. This is truly a memorable occasion.”
As the festival approaches, excitement builds not just in El Cotillo but in the wider regional community, showcasing the power of local culture and the arts in fostering connections among people. With each performance, the festival aims to create immersive experiences that resonate with participants and spectators alike, reminding everyone of the joy and creativity that the arts can bring to everyday life.
