This year marks a remarkable milestone— the festival will celebrate its 20th edition, having begun its journey in 2004. During the announcement of this special edition, several dignitaries made their presence felt, including Fuerteventura’s Cabildo President, Lola García; La Oliva’s Mayor, Isaí Blanco; Cultural Councilor Rayco León; and Culture Councilor David Hernández. García highlighted the festival’s legacy, emphasizing that this year would honor Dania Dévora, the festival’s founder and a driving force behind its artistic direction until her passing on March 25, 2026.

Dania Dévora was known for her unwavering vision for FEM, which revolved around multiculturalism, environmental consciousness, and sustainability. García reiterated Dévora’s philosophy: “This festival represents the intersection of cultures through music, always with an inherent respect for the environment.”

In her remarks, Dévora emphasized that celebrating 20 years of FEM involves more than just reflection; it encapsulates the challenge of establishing a distinctive identity amidst a sea of similar festivals.

The Festival’s Significance

Isaí Blanco, the Mayor of La Oliva, shared how FEM has transformed El Cotillo into a cultural hotspot. The festival helps attract locals and visitors alike, showcasing artists from varied backgrounds while enhancing awareness of the natural beauty of the surrounding Playa de La Concha. He noted, “The FEM is not just about music; it’s about fostering a sense of community and environmental mindfulness.”

Cultural Councilor Rayco León added that, over the years, FEM has become a unique celebration of culture, serving as a catalyst for societal change and environmental awareness. “Everything is ready for a grand edition—we aim to celebrate this anniversary with vigor and excitement,” he proclaimed.

The festival is also a platform for local talents like Marta Umpiérrez and the ensemble Arife, highlighting the importance of nurturing homegrown artistic expression alongside international acts.
