La Carpa de Fuerteventura: A Sustainable Cultural and Musical Extravaganza

La Carpa de Fuerteventura is more than just a festival; it’s a vibrant celebration of culture and music that coincides with the World Windsurfing Championship. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the premier musical events of the summer in the Canary Islands. This year, however, La Carpa takes a significant leap forward with the introduction of its most sustainable edition yet.

A Sustainable Vision

The 2023 edition of La Carpa is labeled as the most eco-friendly event to date. Its planning has embraced sustainability at every level, from mobility logistics to energy consumption. Organizers have redesigned the festival’s energy systems and created a robust waste management plan that emphasizes reduction, reuse, and recycling. This commitment to sustainability is not just a buzzword but a foundational aspect of the festival’s mission.

An external audit will assess the sustainability measures in place, aiming to certify La Carpa as one of the greenest festivals in the Canary Islands. This includes evaluating the carbon footprint and implementing compensatory actions if necessary—mirroring practices increasingly seen at major global festivals.

Green Mobility

La Carpa de Fuerteventura is setting a precedent in sustainable mobility as the first festival in the Canary Islands to utilize 100% renewable diesel. Furthermore, artists traveling to the festival will use green hydrogen vehicles, which produce zero emissions. This dedication to eco-friendly transportation underscores La Carpa’s commitment to reducing its overall environmental impact.

Supporting Local Economies

The festival prioritizes local businesses, reinforcing its eco-conscious approach while simultaneously stimulating the local economy. Nearly all services—from stage construction to lighting, sound, and signage—come from Fuerteventura-based companies. This initiative not only reduces carbon footprints but also fosters community engagement and economic growth.

Expanded Festival Experience

This year’s festival features a polygonal tent structure that debuted in the last edition, allowing for a spacious environment with 1,800 square meters dedicated to enhancing audience comfort. With improvements in layout and design, attendees can expect a more enjoyable experience as they immerse themselves in the music and festivities.

An Exciting Lineup

From July 18 to August 3, La Carpa is set to deliver a diverse array of musical performances and activities. Headlining the event is Nicki Nicole, a Latin urban sensation who boasts an impressive 25 million monthly listeners and over 22 million followers globally. She will electrify the stage on July 30.

Mëstiza, a unique duo known for blending electronic beats with traditional flamenco, will perform on August 1, drawing audiences from cities like London and Dubai. The Colombian artist Beele, who combines urban music with Caribbean sounds and has 15 million monthly listeners, will perform as part of his European tour on July 23.

The festival also spotlight its renowned “Benditos Jueves” Thursdays, where Marco Faraone will headline on July 25, joined by other talented DJs and artists like Rendher and Sara de Araujo.

Thematic Nights and More

Alongside the spectacular headliners, La Carpa features thematic nights and numerous DJs, offering a rich, varied experience for festival-goers. This summer’s edition promises a comprehensive festival atmosphere replete with the best of urban and electronic music against the breathtaking backdrop of one of the world’s best beaches.

Collaborative Efforts

La Carpa de Fuerteventura is organized by the Pájara City Council and René Egli by Meliá, produced by Backstage Canarias SL. The event enjoys the support of the Insular Council of Fuerteventura and several local tourism initiatives, highlighting community cooperation in delivering an unforgettable experience.

As a beacon of culture and sustainability, La Carpa de Fuerteventura is set to captivate audiences while championing ecological responsibility, making it an event not to be missed this summer.
