On June 16, 2021, the Consejería de Obras Públicas, Transportes y Vivienda, part of the Government of the Canary Islands, formally handed over the management and maintenance responsibilities of two crucial new infrastructures to the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. These developments include a nearly six-kilometer cycling lane and a new connection point at the Barranco de El Salmo. The latter aims to ease access for drivers heading from the northern regions to the stunning beaches of Sotavento and Esquinzo.

This transformative project was made possible by a significant investment of €44 million from the Government of the Canary Islands, which took place in 2019. The new 14.3-kilometer motorway replaced the old FV-2 and has become a vital route for locals and tourists alike.
